I got to read Susan Bradley’s 8/23/22 alerts the day AFTER my August Win 10 Pro [21H2] update deferrals had ended and were now in “Pending download” Status.ย  Am I correct that wushowhide can no longer be used to hide KB5012170 before downloading and installing the updates?

Any other options than crossing my fingers and hoping I get lucky with the Secure Boot DBX install?ย  My Lenovo E595 laptop has a UEFI BIOS, Secure Boot State is ON, BitLocker is OFF [never used}, drive is GPT partitioned.

You can reset the software distribution folder.ย  With that setup you should be fine however.

If it’s “Pending download” and it hasn’t yet downloaded, that is the perfect time to hide it with wushowhide.
If it has already downloaded, do as Susan says. Reset the software distrobution.

      Susan, PKCano,

Thanks for the replies & suggestions!ย  Will try the wushowhide first, since the updates are still “Pending”.

I do have a few related questions for PKCano after reviewing the AKB2000013 topic.

In your 2/19/22 post #2426421, there is a more compact summary for hiding updates and installing the rest incorporating Matador’s shortcut for clearing the Windows Update queue and initiating download/install of the non-hidden updates.ย  I just want to confirm:

      1. ย These steps are for a Windows 10 Pro system.
      2. ย All the metered connection steps in AKB2000013 are eliminated when using Win 10 Pro with Enable Automatic Updates set to “2” in Group Policy.
      3. ย The “Open Services” steps are also unnecessary with Win 10 Pro configured as above.
      4. ย The download/install of non-hidden updates will begin immediately after the Pause/Resume steps are done.

This will be my first time using wushowhide and the simplified steps found in your 2022 posts.ย  I do tend to be cautious when using newly learned procedures.

Thanks for being out there on the Ask Woody Plus site!

When you use wushowhide, click “Advanced” then uncheck “automatically make changes.” Choose “Hide” then check the ones you want to hide and follow the instructions.

Follow the instructions in #2473581. Be sure you have the “2” set in Group Policy. If you have “Pause” already set, start at the top. If “Pause is not set, and there is a list of updates in the Windows Update queue, use wushowhide to hide the ones you don’t want.

The last two steps in those instructions are essentially @Matador’s method to clear the queue. That is much easier than the long instructions in AKB2000013 that I started with. Follow the instructions to clear the queue and after WU subsequently scans for updates, the only ones that will download are the ones you chose not to hied (the ones you want).
