Whenever I,click the back button on my browser it clicks two times.
Same thing happens when I`m in a folder and click “previous”it click me back two times.
Settings are correct:”Double click an item”.
But when I,click once,it clicks twice.
Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be?

      Has this just started happening?
      Does it survive a re-boot?

      • #603092

        Yes,it started,a few days ago.
And yes it`s still there after rebooting.
Add.If I,have a few browsers open and I,want to close one at the X,it closes two browsers.

        • #603104

Do you believe it is only happening within IE?
          What happens in other applications?
Have you installed/upgraded any software recently?
Have you tried re-installing your mouse driver?

          • #603122

It definatly happens with all applications.
For instance when I`m trying to burn a cd with Nero, when I,drag and drop,my mediaplayer opens because it thinks I,doubleclicked the file.
Clicking the back button when I,m in a folder of a folder, clicks me right back to my documents etc.
I,don`t know what you call recently, but about 2 weeks ago I,changed all my software.
Reinstalling my mouse-driver would be an option to try and see if it makes any differance.
Think I`ll try that first and let you know what happend.
If not maybe you have some other solutions I can try.

            Thanks so far.

            • #603243

Re-installed my mouse drivers, but it did`nt make any difference.
              Still the same problem.

              Greetz.

            • #603247

Try removing your rodent from the Device Manager and rebooting….let Windows find it again and see if that does anything. Since it happens across all applications we can rule out an errant program as the cause.

            • #603260

              Quistion first,before I,do that.
How am I,gonna reboot my pc(because when I,tried to remove the mouse,it said” warning this device will be removed”)
Here`s some more info,it`s a Compaq Logitech Wireless mouse(No it`s not the batteries,I,tried that already)
And the receiver is connected to a PS2 port.
              Maybe of some help.

              Greetz.

            • #603269

After you remove the mouse, you can use the TAB key to select the appropriate “OK” or “Apply” buttons. The space bar can be used for a left mouse click when you have the correct button selected. And finally, pressing ALT+F4 enough will shut down your running applications, if any, and Windows too, once all applications are closed.

Since it’s a wireless mouse, have you tried changing the channel on the receiver and/or mouse? Most come with an additional channel for this reason. It’s also possible that you have some radio interference nearby that’s causing the problem. Could be anything with a motor that generates square waves, or another remote control device of some kind. What has changed recently in your environment?

            • #603284

I`m gonna try it the way you explained it(print the page first)
Can`t I,use the up and down/left and right keys?
Guess I,ll find that out for myself.
Cannot think of anything specific that has changed in my environment.
So,I`m gonna try that and hope it`s the solution for this irritating problem.

              Thanks so far.

Removed the mouse from my machine and rebooted.
Window detected the mouse again and re-installed the software for it.
I`ve been checking all aplications today and the problem is`nt that frequent anymore.
              But it is`nt gone either.
Especially when using Nero.(When selecting a bunch of files while holding down the shift key)
The receiver of my wireless doesn`t have a switch to select a different frequency.
So the problem isn`t really gone but as I,said it doesn`t happen that often anymore.
Maybe someone has yet another idea?
In the main time thank you both for the quick responces and explanations.

              Greetz.

An improvement, but no real fix. Hmmmm. If you have time, it may be worthwhile to perform an in-place install of WIndows all over again. Normally, I don’t expect much out of it, but part of the setup process will validate and correct any mismatched/corrupt system files. I would also recommend disabling any applications/programs that run at startup, and rebooting with a “clean” slate. If the problem goes away, then re-enable the programs one at a time until it does, and then you’ll have your cuplrit.

Have you tweaked any mouse settings in the Control Panel, and are you using the vendor’s software to enable any additional features? I’ve had weird problems with Logitech’s Mouseware before, and the odd weird thing with IntelliPoint too.

            • #603736

I,wouldn`t know where to begin performing a in-place install(don`t know what it is or how to do it).
I`ve got only the necessary applications running at start up:
              1.ScanRegestry.
              2.TaskMonitor.
              3.PCHealth.
              4.SystemTray.
              5.LoadPowerProfile 2x.
              6.Hidserv.
              7.DXM6Patch_981116.
              8.Smapp.
              9.NAVAgent.
              10.SchedulingAgent.
              11.StateMgr.
              12.StillImageMonitor.
              13.SSDSRV.
              14.ScriptBlocking.
Dissabling Norton would`nt be wise for two reasons first of all virus-wise.
And before I,got Norton on I`ve always had shut-down problems, but when I,put Norton on that problem dissapeared.
But to answer your other quistions no I,have not tweaked any mouse setting recent.
Several months ago I,did disable the sound-click(Because whenever I,clicked something I,heard 6/7clicks over the speakers).
This problem did dissapear when I,rebooted.
So I,guess there`s always been a problem of repetition,I,just didn`t hear it anymore and now finaly it breaks free.
And something may be really messed up with my mouse.
Further,I`ve been to Logitech`s site looked for my model but it was not in the list.
(I,say list, but they had a bunch of pictures of mice you could click, but my model wasn`t in it)
This would then bring you to the correct software download page.
There was a picture of a mouse that was the same model only with a cord,so I,don`t think this was the right software/driver for mine.
So,this is all the info I,got.
              Maybe of some help.

              Greetz.

I don’t know if this makes sense or not, but could the double click problem have to do with the mouse itself?
Liberator, do you know anyone else who has the same model as yours? If so, could you borrow it and see if your problem persists?
Have you spilled pop on your mouse, or otherwise gummed up the button contacts?

It doesn’t happen every time? If it does, check your button settings (Control Panel – Mouse) to see if you have “Double Click” selected for the button you are using.

An aside re optical rodents…if you have a cat that likes to lounge on your desk, you may want to periodically clean the fine hairs out from the pocket around the light.
I was having some intermitant problems with mine until I removed just 2 or 3 small, fine cat hairs. No problems since!

              Have a Great day!!

The settings for my mouse are correct(Doubleclick an item)
I,have a dog,but he`s not the least bit interrested in my machine,so he stays away from it.
I,clean my machine every day (screen, mouse outer-cast,keyboard etc.).
With the Dutch equivalent of what you call “Windex”.
But no I,don`t know of anyone having the same machine as I,do.
So I,don`t think the mouse itself is the problem.
Wish it was, then I,bought another one today,Problem solved!
              No,I,think it`s some faulty software/driver or something.
              Anyway,thanks for your reply.

              Have a good one,KenK.

            • #604069

This may be “not seeing the forest because of all the trees”, but, if you had your mouse button set for Doubleclick and you were clicking twice the way you would with most default button settings, then you would be experiencing the problem as I understand it.
Anyway, you say you bought a new one and Problem Solved…….Amen!!

              Have a Great day!!
              Ken

            • #604339

              No,you missunderstand.
I,said I,would buy another mouse “IF” that was the problem.
              But it isn`t.
The problem I,think is with some corrupted windows-file or driver.

              Have a good one:

              Greetz.

            • #604348

Until you try another mouse you do NOT know that it is NOT the current mouse. See if you can borrow one from some you know. If you go and by one, you will always have one to check out whether it is the mouse or not again if you start having more problems. A mouse can be gotten got less that $10 US, it always pays to have a spare or two of items like a mouse, keyboard and etc.

I,understand what you are saying and I`m sure there are pc-mice for that price you say.
But I,want my rodent`s tail cut off and a scroll function.
And,if I`m gonna buy an exta I,want it to be of a brand name not some generic.
Because,if the mouse itself is the problem,I,can`t go back to one with a tail etc.
So,your other sugestion is an option,(borrow someone elses mouse and see what happens).
If that one works then buy another with all the features I,mentioned.
But I,don`t think they come for that price you say.

              Greetz.

I just checked a catalog at http://www.simply.co.uk[/url%5D (I chose them because they are very near where I live). Their cheapest mouse is less than

            • #604634

I,checked it out and your right the prices are reasonable.
              But I,don`t buy anything on-line.
So,I,have to go to a local shop and see their prices.
              But thanks for your reaction.

              Greetz.

Check your cookies folder… it sounds like you’ve got a case of DoubleClick! rofl

Couldn’t resist that one, though I’ll probably regret it later on.
