It is possible to have 2 versions of Excel on th esame machine, and I have Excel 97 and 2000 co-habiting. However before installing 97, i would completly un-install XL2000, and when XL97 is in situ re-install 2000.

I’m not too sure that you have to completely steer away from forms either, you can try them and should not have real with ordinary userforms. Excel 200o does support modeless userforms, which is not available to XL97 however.

Hi All,

I currently have Office 2000 installed as my base application. I am developing macros that have to run in excel 97 as well as 2000.

Firstly, are there any things other than forms that I should steer away from?

Secondly, I want to install excel 97 on my machine as well as have excel 2000 installed. Any suggestions regarding the best method of doing this?

Hi All,

I run Office 97, 2000 and XP all on the same computer without any problems. Just watch how you install them. Do not install them all into the default Microsoft Office folder. Make a new folder for each version.

I agree with the other reply. Fisrt install 97 AND any Service packs then do 2000. In the install it will have a box you have to check to tell it to keep the old version.

I have written a bunch of programs in Excel 2000 that I run in Excel 97 and haven’t had many problems. I also write in the latest version and make sure it runs in previous versions.

I haven’t had any problems using forms. After you make something in Excel 2000, save it and open it in Excel 97 and compile the code. You will quickly find anything that it doesn’t understand and it isn’t usally difficult to find a way to change the code so it works in both.

Two things to watch out for are referances. By defualt the reference for Excel will always be that higher version and you will need to change that if you are giving it to some using Excel 97. Also in 2000 ADO is the default so if you want to use DAO you have to preface objects like database and recordset with DAO. For example Dim DAO.Database As Database.
