Running Windows 11 Home 22H2.  I have entered the new registry entries to hide/disable Copilot as well as ensuring that Edge is not the default browser, doesn’t run at startup, doesn’t run in the background, etc.

However, I keep on getting Edge popping up talking about Copilot.

Is there any other way to kill this damn thing?  🙂

    TIA,

    Jim

Could you describe in more detail? What does it say? When you do what?

From what I understand (this is a relative’s PC) overnight a Edge/Bing browser opens/pops up.  I’ve attached a pic of it.  I’m told that they are not doing anything (because they are asleep) and when they wake up this browser window is showing on the screen.

          Is edge truly open?

It certainly looks like this is Edge open.  🙂    I’ll check in Task Manager next time it pops up.  Having said that, the last time I saw this (just a few days ago) it did show the Edge icon in the task bar.

It could be that clicking to dismiss the lock screen is launching Bing (assuming that the computer is asleep while they are). Ask them to try using the space bar to get started instead.

@Susan Bradley:  This Edge/Bing screen just reappeared again on the PC.  The system was idle (not sleeping, but the screen was off and the system was locked).  When the PIN was entered to unlock the system and waken the screen, Edge was definitely running with the phrase “What can copilot in Bing do for you?” was already populated in the Edge search bar.  See the screen pic below.

I have the registry entries in place to turn off copilot.  Chrome is set as our default browser everywhere.

I have gone through Susan Bradley’s KB article 9000001… and done all those steps.

I’m simply baffled at this point!  Anyone have any ideas?

            Thanks!

… the system was locked).  When the PIN was entered …

Something happened inbetween those two. What was it?

It could be that clicking to dismiss the lock screen is launching Bing Edge

Specifically, if the Lock screen is configured to display Windows spotlight, and the user happens to click on one of the random text search fields displayed on the image to get to the logon screen to enter the PIN/password, Windows will open Edge and Bing upon completion of the logon (BTDT).  At this point, the choice of default browser is ignored. Using the space bar instead of clicking as b suggests will avoid the issue.

              Regards, Phil

@Phil F.   Interesting idea.  I’ll check on it.  Thx.

      Hi Colorado_Hiker:

Go through Susan Bradley’s KB article 9000001 Blocking Copilot in Windows 10 and 11 Home sku and turn off all the Windows (e.g., Personalization | Taskbar) and MS Edge (e.g., Sidebar | App and Notification Settings) settings as instructed in that KB article to see if that helps.

Chrome is set as our default browser everywhere.

Check Chrome settings. Microsoft may have changed your start / home page

I’ve checked and the chrome homepage has not been dinked with.
