Uninstalling Google Chrome Causes Link Problem

A very irritating problem is caused by uninstalling Google Chrome. After doing so, I cannot get links in email or Word to work. After I reinstall Chrome, everything works as it did. Is there some way to correct the problem without keeping such an invasive program on my computer?

It might be that you have to set the default browser prior to the uninstall of Google Chrome. Set another browser as default, then try the uninstallation.
