Update from 1803 to 1903 Now – how many days to select?

If you’re running Win10 1803 or 1809 and want to move to version 1903, choose Semi-Annual Channel and 180 days feature update deferral. You’ll end up with a version of Win10 Pro that has a “Download and install now” offer to upgrade to 1909.

That was 12 days ago do I set the semi annual channel to 168 days ?

Replies

1909 came out 25 days ago.
1903 came out slightly less than 200 days ago.
So greater than 25 and slightly less than 200 should give you 1903.
Don’t use the “download and install now” link – that will probably be 1909.

180 looks like a good number.

BUT MS is pushing 1909, so I would recommend:
Be sure you have Group Policy set: Windows Update = Enabled, value = 2 (notify download/install) so it doesn’t automatically download when you change the setting.
AND, LOOK what is in the queue before you download.
Use wushowhide to HIDE the update if it’s 1909 and the procedure in our Knowledge Base AKB2000013 to clear the Windows Update queue of the updates you hide.

Then after the download, disconnect from the Internet before you reboot.

I’m looking in group policy editor,  Computer config,  windows components,  windows update

I don’t see the setting you mention.  Can you tell me where it is ? Thanks

“Configure Automatic Updates” is the policy setting you’re looking for. (You’re in the correct area.)

I sent the deferral to 180 and got 1809 !   I will clear the updates.  But now I’m not sure how to get 1903.    Or should I just install 1809?

Well now I’m having real trouble !    I had set the deferral days to 180,  got 1809.  Ok  decided to install.  It downloaded.  Went to 100% and started to download again immediately.   I ran the troubleshooter.   Reboot.   Re-downloaded very slowly got to 100% and started downloading again.   Ran the troubleshooter again and said it fixed something.  I rebooted  but wasn’t sure about it, so I went into software  distribution  folder to check update files.  There were a few from today and one from November 11th.  Different sizes.   The only update I showed in Windows update was 1809.   Course I can’t tell what’s in these files and if anything is corrupted,  I decided to delete all the updates and just let it start again.   Did that. Rebooted.   Now it’s still showing 1809  ready to install!  There aren’t any files in the windows download folder.  When I go to shut down I have option to just restart Or update and restart.    When I run windows show hide it shows 1809. Where else could the update files be?

I can install, but I’m worried I’ve got a corrupted download. Any advice on what I should do ?  Thanks

If you have 1809, let it install.

I posted a reply but didn’t see it. Sorry if this is duplicate. I would like to install 1809 but since I had deleted the windows update files, I am concerned about the download being corrupt.  I don’t understand where it is getting the update files from – they are not in software distribution folder.  Any ideas on that?   I can install it, if it messes my computer up I will have to recover. I have backup would rather not go through all that. Appreciate your help.

OK  I’d  like to do that.  But, I had deleted the files in windows download –  and was going to re-download fresh.   Now I don’t know where it’s getting the update files from and I’m worried about them being corrupt because I was having problems with windows download.

That was an error : should have been : You’ll end up with a version of Win10 Pro that has a “Download and install now” offer to upgrade to 1903.

Woody’s recommendation, to move to 1903 was for home version. For 1809 pro it is still, stay.

I was on Win 10 Pro 1803.  On November 25, I reset my Feature deferral days to 100 in the Windows Updater Advanced section, waited for Updater to recycle and got ver 1903 in my downloader (use Group Policy, Windows Update #2 – notify before download or install).   Allowed install the next day on 11/26 and no problems to-date.

Guess that would be 112 days now counting 11/25?

try 120 days deferral for 1803 Pro and run Windows Update again
(though I use WUMT and 1803 enterprise – windows update minitool and disable auto-updates from WUMT)
