    Hey guys,

I’m new and I’m not very familiar with most of the terms so please try to explain things as easily as possible.

Basically, I was updating my VLC player, but my entire computer froze during the update so I restarted it. Once my computer started up again I noticed that it was going very slow. I ran my spyware and antivirus scans and they both came up with nothing. I defragmented using smartdefrag 2, but that didn’t help either. I uninstalled VLC and redownloaded the newest version and it didn’t freeze this time, but my comp slowness has not recovered. When I try to play a movie the audio and video are choppy and distorted. I played a video on youtube to find the same occured. Everything is running slowly. I have read that VLC changes some things with the registry so I’m afraid something may have gone wrong when I restarted my computer during the first update. Please let me know if you need any scn shots or any more info.

    I’m using
    Asus U46SV Laptop
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40GHz, 2401 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
    NVIDIA Geforce GT 540MProcessor

    Under task manager
Highest CPU usage is chrome with like 01 to 03
I also noticed on the Intel Turbo Boost Gadget, it shows 2.90+ GHz being used while idle? Is that normal?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

If VLC caused a registry related problem leading to the slow performance, a system restore to a point prior to the update that seems to have caused the problems will have you right as rain in 5 minutes.

Oh geez, thanks Roderunner for that info. I went in and deleted that file.

F.U.N. I don’t have a recent system restore point =/ I’m not really computer savvy. I’ll have to try to remember to do it once I get this laptop working properly again. How often do you create restore points? And how exactly do you do it?

I actually turned on the comp this morning and it seems to be working fine, even before deleting that file Roderunner informed me about. I have to go run some errands, but I’ll keep you guys updated if the issue resurfaces. Thanks for all the help so far!

I don’t use VLC, I use Winamp Pro for music & Media Player Classic Home Cinema for movies.

Start orb and type Create a restore point (it’ll show in results by the time you type Create). I let the system create automated restore points unless I’m about to install something major like drivers (if the program is good it will make its own restore point before installing), then I’ll do a manual one to get right back where I was in case…

I use VLC quite a bit for video only, but I have never experienced the OP’s described slowdown issue.
So it might depend upon what your using it for and what else you have that might be associated with it.

Media player continues to have flaws when scrolling a large > 1.5 hr video. (the sound becomes disassociated with the video)

You might try uninstalling/reinstalling the VLC Player. Sometimes the upgrade corrupts something.
