    Hi,

On the advice of Nathan Segal in a recent AskWoody newsletter, I decided to try Updraft (free). Set up Google Drive for the location and validated it.

I then tried a scheduled backup which came back as “not finished”. So deleted that one and did a manual one. That didn’t work either. I’ve attached the error message it gave me. Downloaded an error log, too, and can send it if it would help. It sure didn’t mean anything to me!!

Can a Woody Lounger tell me how to correct this? Or should I be contacting our web host? We do auto backups with them, but everything I read tells me we nHeed to backup in more than one location.

    Hopefully and gratefully,

    Linda

Hi – I had that problem too.  Updraft does not notify you when it runs out of space on your backup.  It just fails.  That’s a bit of a bug.

I bought some extra backup space for my site, and now it works fine.

      Good luck!  John Bridges

Thanks, John. That was what I first suspected. I was backing up to Google Drive and have only their free 15 GB. When I checked just now, there were 3 Updraft backups listed from today and a notice that my space was 98% used.

Could that be why the backup said it was “unfinished”? The 3 are ‘plugins’, ‘themes’ and ‘others’. I guess that means the DB was not backed up and that’s why I got the unfinished message?? You can tell I’m kind of thinking and typing at the same time!

So, to net this out, it looks as if I do NOT have enough space on Google Drive to backup all my site files. Correct?

Is there a different way to backup safely that does not cost money. Right now, that is in short supply!

      Thanks,

      Linda

Hi Linda – I think I paid around $75 for updraft storage, but that could be wrong – I didn’t look it up.  I did look up google drive, and it has 100 gb for $1.99 a month.  That might be the best bet…..

      Good luck!

      John

Keep backing up to Google, but download the oldest to your PC and delete it from Google.

      cheers, Paul
