I sent the following message to Woody with reference to the Pulling The Trigger On Win 10 Version 2004 article in the Newsletter issue 17.42.0 and he recommended that I place the information on the Forum:
I did not have an ISO copy of Win 10 2004 and used the Rufus option. That was a bit confusing but I did succeed in downloading the file. I wanted to try the update on my oldest laptop and found that I could not make a bootable DVD or flash drive as the file was too large. Apparently, the download included two versions of the update even though I had selected the 64 bit option in the Rufus program.
I used Rufus to create a bootable flash drive and that gave me a warning that I had to remove the Bios protection. I tried creating a bootable DVD and all I succeeded in doing was creating a copy of the file on a double sided DVD. I tried using the external hard drive option and that worked fine.
Next, I tried to update another older laptop and when I double clicked on the Windows file on the external hard drive it gave me a pop-up that stated the autorun file was missing or corrupt. I tried deleting the file and copying a new ISO file from my downloads folder to the external hard drive. That didn’t work. Next, I tried using an external DVD drive and the DVD with the file on it and that apparently works.
It looks like the simple upgrade is to use the burn to disk option when you right click on the file. The only problem with that for some people is having a portable/internal DVD drive capable of making or reading the disk. My current upgrade has reached 58% on the install. I have four more to go. I should have listened to the recommendation to download the 2004 file earlier. My next step is to download the ISO file for the latest version.
