If the “Pause updates” button is flipped on (35 days), can I still use the Wushowhide utility to check on updates to hide (and hide them)?  Or does the “Pause updates” setting make them invisible (sort of)?

If this is a duplicate query, sorry, but, it’s a relevant one .. for obvious reasons.  Thanks!

The setting make them invisible (sort of). To check for updates you should disable pause.

I think you missed my point: can I use Wushowhide to check on updates to hide (and hide them) while “Pause updates” is on.

If I disable Pause, the way I understand it, W10 will check, download and install all the updates available.  Without giving me a chance to hide anything.  Not good.

If you use “Pause” to delay updates, at the end of the pause period you will automatically get whatever is pending (whether you want it or not).

For Win10 Home, CUs and Feature Updates do not download over Metered connections (unless Microsoft is forcing upgrades). whshowhide works with connections set to Metered. However, if you disable the Windows Update Service (in Services), wushowhide does not work b/c it uses the Service to search.

For Win10 Pro, there is a discussion of settings here and in the thread to control Windows Update.

Or, you can use third-party update blockers. See information here for update blockers.

Thanks, I have read the settings thread and related discussions.  But, as I flipped the “Pause” by mistake (not knowing better), I was wondering – specifically – if “Wushowhide” still works while “Pause” is on.  Or does “Pause” on equal WUS (in services) being disabled?

Judging from the general confusion in this area (even among the best of the best), to me, a most relevant issue to clarify.  Again, thanks!

I don’t believe pause disables WUS. It just doesn’t allow download and install until after the pause period.

I doubt Microsoft would disable the Windows Update Service under any circumstances. That would be a User thing using some manual/third-party manipulation.

So, the upshot is then that Wushowhide (probably) works while Pause is on.  If so, excellent, as that gives me a way to recover.  Thanks!

      Wushowhide

Wushowhide doesn’t work when paused or deferred updates are set.

On my 1809 Wushowhide shows no updates (I haven’t updated yet May 2019 updates) while Belarc shows 5 missing updates.

That tallies with my experience.  On my 1809 Wushowhide shows no updates (except for some hidden hardware drivers) and I haven’t done the May update run either.

I’ll wait for Defcon 4 and then I’ll turn on metered connection and reboot before I’ll check with WSH.  Not sure that works, but, who knows.  Thanks for clarifying!
