Knowing I’m not nor will ever be a touch typist, in 1999 I bought Dragon Naturally Speaking ver.9.5 Loved it!

Worked great on XP. Then W10 came along and a lot of what worked on XP and even on W7 didn’t on W10. DNS was sold to Microsoft 2 years ago so what used to cost $99 (reasonable) is now $500!

I’ve read DNS version 13 doesn’t run on W10 and 14 will be MS is not selling it and could not find it anywhere on Ebay.

I have confidential info I work on so I can’t use the dictation with W10 – Word as that’s connected to the net.

There was a short thread on reddit re: sending W10 and DNS (I have the disk) into Compatibility Mode but there were no details of how to do that and if it even works.

    Thank you.

According to the Nuance site you can install V16 locally on W10/11 – no cloud access.

      cheers, Paul

Charles, why don’t you just keep using Win XP or Win 7 if you don’t need or want to be online? I have old computers I use that go back as far as Win 95B.

Being 20 something in the 70's was so much better than being 70 something in the insane 20's

I am using Nuance Dragon Professional Individual 15.16.200.010 to dictate this post with Microsoft Home & Business 2021.

It now looks as if Nuance is offering Dragon 16 that includes both “cloud based” and “locally installed” versions.

      https://www.nuance.com/dragon.html

I will be interested to see any comments relating to the need to have an internet connection for version 15 or the “locally” installed versions of 16.

I will try to run 15 without an internet connection when I get a chance.

We are running Nuance Dragon Professional Individual 15 on a Windows 10 Pro Workstation.

Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional does indeed cost hundreds of dollars… but you should still be able to get Dragon NaturallySpeaking Home v15 for much, much less, even though it has been discontinued by Nuance.

I’m in the UK and a Google search shows it available for about £135 ($168).

Just be careful… the searches throw up results that are quite clearly not legit, e.g. Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional for £32 ($40).

      Hope this helps…

I am the process of installing Nuance Dragon Home Version 15 via CD on an HP ProBook laptop.

Was able to get the software working without use of the internet but updating the app required going on line and sharing personal information.

According to the box the CD came in, “With Dragon Home, you never need to be connected to the internet to dictate your documents and control your PC via voice.”
