I’ve just noticed a folder on my W10 Pro desktop. The folder is named BRCM-DMS:3 and it contains 3 empty sub-folders (Music, Photos, and Video).

When I right-click, there’s an option to “Remove Device”.

Does anyone know what this BRCM-DMS:3 is?

I’ve tried a Google search but I can’t find anything that is relevant and makes sense to me.

I’m tempted to choose the right-click “Remove this Device” but I don’t want to cause a problem.

    Thanks for any advice!

    Alan

It looks like this pseudo-device may be the result of a DNLA file/media server running on your modem/router (e.g. Broadcom-Digital Media Server – Broadcom being the chipset in the router).

What modem/router do you have? (exact make/model so we can look for a manual).

      Hope this helps…

      Heavily borrowing from Donald Rumsfeld:
There are known knowns in the Device Manager; these are things we know that we know.
There are known unknowns in the Device Manager; that is to say, there are things that we know we don’t know — such as BRCM-DMS:3.
But there are also unknown unknowns; there are things we don’t know we don’t know — such as what will happen, such as what will be the consequences, if the known unknowns, i.e., BRCM-DMS:3 and/or other things are removed via Device Manager.
The unknown unknown consequences here might outweigh the guessed at benefits of removals via Device Manager of such known unknowns.

      Thanks Roland and Rick!

I’m going to leave it alone and ignore it henceforth!

      Thanks again and happy holidays,

Google search seems to indicate something to do with a Netgear router.

Looks like it may be related to a Sony Bluray player according to this thread.

I have the same problem in Bluethoot setings on my W10 but I have 56 times signed in menu Bluetooth  setting BRCM-DMC:13   or 12

Exactly what problems are you having?
What is “56 times signed in”?

      cheers, Paul

Perhaps a bit irrelevant but is you open device manager and select view > show hidden devices and rummage the list you might find a causative device which if “greyed out” is like that because it is currently inactive – you could have thrashed a button on something external to the PC and changed the device mode at some point. Various media devices, sky satellite boxes and the like also use a broadcom chip..
