What is “Microsoft Office Single Image 2010?”

Revo Uninstall Pro shows Microsoft Office Single Image 2010 as having been installed yesterday. What is it? Maybe this was just an update to something that’s been there all this time, but I can’t ever recall seeing or hearing of it before. A google search hasn’t turned up anything useful (some see a message about it every time they start Word). My last install of Office Home & Student 2010 retail version was probably earlier this year as part of a clean reinstall of Win 8.1. Thanks,

Presumably Revo Uninstall Pro is just trying to differentiate between the stand-alone & click-to-run editions of Office. Office 2010 only ever existed in stand-alone editions. As for being installed yesterday, perhaps that’s based on the latest Office 2010 update’s installation date.

I remember very clearly the problems my colleagues and I had at the time having to fault-fix stand-alone installations being stomped on by the newly-introduced click-to-run versions and vice versa. It was a complete and utter mess for quite some time until MS issued guidance (i.e. finally accepted) that ‘stand-alone’ and ‘click-to-run’ did not (and continue to do not) play well together.

Unfortunately this ridiculous situation still exists today: see Office installed with Click-to-Run and Windows Installer on same computer isn’t supported.

I didn’t mention the Office update to try to keep things simple. For unrelated reasons, I did a system restore after the Office update. Everything showing from that update was apparently eliminated. Per Revo, Single Image’s install was a day earlier and, as I indicated, was something I had never seen before. Curious what it is.

Btw, I have Win 10 Pro and had set updates to be deferred, but the ones this week installed totally unannounced (or at least while I was in front of the computer). Not sure how to get them back now.

My experience with 0ffice 2010 Single Image is that it is an installation file that contains all the versions of Office 2010. When you run the install, it picks which features it will install based on the product key that you enter at the beginning of the installation.

Rick, What you speak to is along the lines of what my google search found, at least in the sense it was aimed at IT pros and situations with multiple installs (btw, your second link is no longer valid). Which leads to the questions: Why or how would Single Image have been installed on my (home) computer and what if anything to do about it? I don’t find it in CP > Programs > main screen or updates, but I’ve attached a screenshot of the prompt that comes up in Revo Pro (I canceled).

In my opinion Microsoft has, since 2010, a continuing – yet usually unacknowledged – problem with its wishes/intentions of moving MS software to cloud-based SAAS, as opposed to continuing support/development of ‘legacy’ installations via ‘physical media’.

JoeP517, That’s what I was referring to in my OP as seemingly not relevant to my single user, single OS, single Office install desktop; i.e., “That is the installation file the MS provides to manufactuers to install the 3 trial versions.”

Sorry but I can’t advise you re: Single Image installs. Whilst I ‘think’ MS now knows what it’s doing with SAAS installs, I don’t yet have any confidence that MS has worked out what to do with conflicts with legacy installs of disk-based (i.e. MSI) versions.

Well, the install date could be from an actual installation, an activation, or a change in Office configuration. I would not place much faith in those dates.

Also, note that deferring upgrades does not affect security updates. You still get those.See What Does “Defer Upgrades” in Windows 10 Mean?[/url]

While Revo calling something new per my 1-day setting is typically accurate, occasionally something showing as new has left me scratching my head.

I assume my System Restore back to the previous evening took out all those security, office and rollup updates (nothing with this week’s date shows in CP or Revo). How do I find get them now? Thanks,
