    System: Windows Home 11 23H2
Laptop: ASUS Vivobook Model # M1605YA-ES74
    Monitor: ViewSonic 22″ VX2250wm-LED

Saw this error in the event viewer. I think this occurred at the same time the laptop went to sleep while I was using it to browse the Internet. Note that I have configured the laptop to never sleep either on battery or AC power, so unsure why the laptop went to sleep, and do not understand this error message.

So what does this message mean?

“Miniport Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter #2, {2f921371-9a89-43ae-ad1e-54333841b92a}, had event Fatal error: The miniport has failed a power transition to operational power”

    Thank you.

Try a full Shutdown > Boot up cycle in case there was some (pending?) update behind the bugged Sleep trigger.

The event report looks like the sleep trigger/whatever interrupted a wake call for the WiFi, try forcing the WiFi to stay at full power via Device Manager and/or the Power settings (I usually do both for full-time AC power).

Satrow — Could I trouble you to be a bit more specific as to how I accomplish your 2 suggestions? I do not see in Device manager where I would force the WiFi to stay at full power,

      Thank you!!

I don’t have Windows 11, but I suspect the settings are the same as Window 10.

What satrow is referring to in Device Manager is right clicking the WiFi network adapter listed in Device Manager and select Properties. Select the Power Management tab. Uncheck the box next to Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. Having this checked is default for all laptops (and desktops?). Be sure to save your changes.

The other settings for the WiFi adapter are in the control panel for Windows 10 and I assume for 11 too.

Open a Run box, copy control.exe powercfg.cpl,,3 and paste into the Run box. press the Enter key. This will open the advanced power options settings.
Your current power plan will be shown in the small box.
Scroll down the list in the large box and click the + by Wireless Adapter Settings to expand. Click the + next to Power Saving Mode to show the setting. Click the setting to show the drop down arrow for you to select the setting you want. The Maximum Performance usually is best for laptops. The default setting for laptops is Low Power setting.
Be sure to click Apply and OK to save your changes.

Since this error was about power I didn’t include how to adjust the WiFi adapter’s signal strength reception to maintain a weak WiFi signal connection.

        Thank you for the help.

Note that for Windows 11 Home the Power management tab is not present for any of the Network adapters.  This seems to be the default for W11 Home on ASUS laptops.

Also for advanced power options settings the wireless adapter is not listed.

        Sigh…..

A little search and I found that this is a common problem with Windows 11. You need to access that Power Management tab to change that setting, but that tab will not display when running S3 mode as Windows 11 by default is set to run.
The solution to display the Power Management tab is the addition of a registry value that turns S3 off and allows the Power Management tab (and its settings) to display.
      Here is their solution

Execute the following reg commands from an elevated command prompt to modify OS behavior:

Disable Modern Standby (Forcing legacy standby S3)

      reg add HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power /v PlatformAoAcOverride /t REG_DWORD /d 0

Revert to Modern Standby (S0 Low Power idle)

      reg delete "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power" /v PlatformAoAcOverride /f

Why is the power management tab missing? I have windows 11 home
