inSSIDer 3 (aka inSSIDer Home) is often mentioned on WSL as the ‘go to’ wifi monitor. Not often mentioned is the free Xirrus Wifi Inspector
I now tend to use Xirrus Wifi Inspector because inSSIDer often mis-identified authentication. For example, it reports my own wireless as using WPA2-Enterprise (instead of WPA2- Personal).

Where inSSIDer 3 scores over Xirrus is its ability to display both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands side-by-side whilst Xirrus can only display 2.4 GHz.
(Be aware that Xirrus needs both Flash and Java installed for its built-in speed and quality of connection tests.)
