Tried to update Win 10 Pro to Feb updates using “wushowhide”.
Restarted wu after adjusting check boxes. Evidently, conflicted with
Bitdefender update that decided to run at same time.
After restart of Wushowhide, program will not find or download updates
I selected. Gave an error message. Something is corrupted.

I tried to get to the original update page in “Security and Updates”
in Windows. “Security and Updates” opens but there is no update
page. So I no longer have the ability to schedule updates as the page is not there.
The page dissapeared when I originally installed weshowhide over a year ago.
I followed Susan’s suggestions and maybe there is a way to back out of wu
and get back to original Windows update page

How do I get the original Win10 update page back so I can use that instead of wushow hide.

Have you tried running the Windows Update troubleshooter?

I tried to get to the original update page in โ€œSecurity and Updatesโ€ in Windows. โ€œSecurity and Updatesโ€ opens but there is no (Windows) update page.

WUMgr has a Box that gets accidentally chk’d to Not Show Settings/Update-Security/Win Update page. I see nothing like that in wushowhide, SO did you ever have WUMgr and maybe clk that box, or IT did so by itself?

There is also a Group Policy setting that hides Windows Update page (I forget where, probably under WU for Business for IT to help prevent Users from installing unauthorized updates)

I have been using winshowhide. Thought it was the same as WM.

I have used winshoehide for awhile and follow printed directions each time.

This time when I restarted the computer to save the selections on wushowhide and get to finding and installing new updates, I got a message that restarting the computer would conflict with ongoing Windows update. After that, when restarted wushowhide, the programย  would pick up new updates but when I tried to download them to install I got an error message. There was no number. As I checked into this, I found that the two latest updates had been installed automatically. I do not know how this happened as I am careful when installing updates. Actually the only reason I am on the paid version of Woody’s is so that I do not install a bad update. I rely on Susan’s information.

Would uninstalling wushowhide and reinstalling work? Would not think so but do not know.

Basically if I can get back to the update page on security and update section of system, and just stop updates for each newย  month, that would work. But that page disappeared when I installed wushowhide and I do not know how to get it back. Have found no information.

Maybe Susan will chime in. I installed wushowhide on her reco. Maybe she knows what happedned. I do not want to go on with auto update. I would rather not update at all then go through Microsoft imposed frustration.

Any help greatly appreciated. Good explanations would be helpful

wushowhide is portable app. No install / uninstall. Just delete.

Have you clicked on ‘advanced’ and un-ticked ‘apply repairs automatically’ ? You should.

wushowhide (a Microsoft troubleshooter) does NOT control whether updates download or not. It only allows you to HIDE or UNHIDE available updates. It DOES NOT hide/remove the Windows Update page in the Settings App.ย  If you have Windows HOME Edition, you can stop the updates from downloading automatically by turning ON METERED CONNECTIONS in the Network section of the Settings App, then use wushowhide to hide the updates you do not want, then turn OFF Metered Connections which will allow the updates to download.

There is a third-party application, WUMgr, that CAN control whether updates download or not. In that program, there is also a setting that can also HIDE WINDOWS UPDATE in the Settings App. We also recommend that program on this website. Did you use that program? If so, that is what you need to control Windows Update and unhide the Windows Update & Security page in the Settings App.

I have Windows Pro. Got it specifically to control updates. Susan recommended wushowhide so I downloaded it. Then I found that the original update page under security and updates no longer appeared. wushowhide worked great over the last year, until it somehow conflicted with an automatic update of win 10 that I did not authorize as far as I know. After working on the first part of wushowhide, to turn on and turn off specific parts of windows download, I restarted my computer as instructed by wushowhide to resetย  the new setting to allow the next step which is to find the current updates and hide those not wanted and then to update.

When I restarted, I did not get far. I got a message that I was conflicting with Windows update, which I took to mean auto update. (A blue box with the message).

Windows restated and I opened wushowhide searched for new updates. Got those, but when I tried to install them I got an error message with no error number which is typical of Windows.ย Someone said I could use something in the Group Policy Editor, I looked but I could not find a way to do this. I am not familiar with this Editor as I am no longer a Windows tech since NT 4.

Any other help should be good.

“There is also a Group Policy setting that hides Windows Update page (I forget where, probably under WU for Business for IT to help prevent Users from installing unauthorized updates)”

โ€œThere is also a Group Policy setting that hides Windows Update page (I forget where, probably under WU for Business for IT to help prevent Users from installing unauthorized updates)โ€

It is under Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel ‘setting page visibility’.

With Windows Pro you need only 2 settings in GPEdit :
      Notify..=2
Set Windows version (and target version)

      Hello All,
Made the jump from Win 8.1 to a new laptop with Win 10 Pro. System reports it is at 22H2.

Quickly however I discovered I cannot turn off updates. Microsoft has allowed me to stall, but apparently, if I understand correctly, will overide my wishes in about 2 weeks, and send its updates in when I connect to the internet.

In this thread (“Win 10 Pro update problems”) I found references to 2 update management possibilities:
      wushowhide
      WUMgr

Please point me to where/how I can get these tools, and where/how I can learn to use them.

I have not patched my 8.1 for a long time. Time to get back in the game.

Thank you all for your help!

In this thread (โ€œWin 10 Pro update problemsโ€) I found references to 2 update management possibilities:
      wushowhide
      WUMgr

You can’t stop updates like you could on Windows 7/8.1
You can only defer updates up to 35 days…

wushowhide and WUmgr are free portable (no install) tools that can block/hide update installations. WUmgr can also install updates (replacing Windows updates).

You should install monthly updates to keep your Windows 10 secure. Follow recommendation on when to install here : https://www.askwoody.com/patch-list-master/
and MS-DEFCOM value (4+ = install updates) at the top banner.

For managing/setting your Windows 10 follow this guide : https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/2000016-guide-for-windows-update-settings-for-windows-10/
