I have two computers on a router connected to a cable internet modem. Both are running fully-patched Win2K SP4. One computer is named “Bill” and the other “Xyzzy.” Both can connect to the internet.

On computer Xyzzy I can click My Network Places and then Computers Near Me and see both Bill and Xyzzy. When I click Xyzzy I can see the shared folder I have set up, as well as Printers and Scheduled Tasks. However, when I click Bill, it says “Bill is not accessible. The network path was not found.”

On computer Bill, when I click My Network Places and then Computers Near Me, I get the message “Workgroup is not accessible. The list of servers for this workgroup is not available.”

I have ZoneAlarm running on both machines.

What do I need to do to make both computers visible to each other?

Is the “Workgroup” name the same on both machines?

In ZoneAlarm have you entered the IP address of the other machine on each machine?

        Workgroup is the same.

I entered the IP address of each (other) computer into the Trusted Zone of ZoneAlarm and now each computer can see the other one. Thanks!

There is a funny glitch on the “Bill” computer, however. When I show Computers Near Me and then click on Bill (the local computer), I have to tell ZoneAlarm four times to allow Generic Host Process for Win32 Services (svchost.exe) to access the Internet. I even check Remember This Setting each time, and it still asks me. I do not have this problem on the other computer. Do you have any idea what is going on?

        Thanks again for your help.

svchost.exe will be running several times. It is running as 7 processes on this machine.
