I think most people will never need to use it, but:

The Path environment variable is an important setting which has been around since the days of DOS, yet for some reason Windows has always made it awkward to view and edit.

Fortunately that’s changed with Windows 10’s November update (1511), which finally offers an interface you might actually want to use.

Perhaps I’m unusual, but I never have found editing the PATH variable to be a great problem, and I have to edit it to add in my directories in front on new version of Windows. Just cut and paste into NOTEPAD, edit to taste, then cut and paste back.

It can even be edited in situ, with a little effort.

      Yes, it could be easier!

Given how often it’s used and by whom I’d say a path editor is almost useless – spend the time making W10 work properly.

      +1 Paul

During the many years I have worked with Windows I can’t recall ever needing to edit a path variable.

I did this once when I installed Microsoft Bob in Windows XP. I installed it in its default location, so to get it to work I had to include the C:MicrosoftBob directory in the path. A simpler solution would have been to just change the default directory to C:ProgramFilesMicrosoftBob.

Well – I’ve only had to do this one more time than you, per version of Windows!

This looks kind of nice. I edit the path several times a year; having the entries nicely listed should make the editing easier. Let’s hope that there are more tweaks like this forthcoming from Microsoft.

Glad at least someone appreciates it. They were a tough audience until you came along. 😀

Path Editor? Bah, we don’t need no stinking path editor! :p

In all candor, the number of people this effects is so small that I’m surprised anyone at MS was actually paid to bother with it. Consider that anyone needing to edit a path should be sophisticated enough to be able to do it with relative ease.
