My PC has suddenly started making the noise indicating that a device has been plugged in or unplugged repeatedly, when in fact no such thing is happening.

How can I stop this repetitive noise, which is very distracting?

    Please advise.

    Thanks and regards, Roy

Have you looked in the event log to see if there is anything there?

Could a usb-device have lost its moorings? I used to be able to see Tab3’s extCard or flipphone’s extCard — not anymore. Hopefully, others can help royw and me out this week!

To rule out USB devices (without disabling in the BIOS), try using Nir Sofer’s USBLogView utility (or USBDeview) to record any connects/disconnects. I used this just recently on a PC with no sound to diagnose a micro USB bluetooth adapter that was breaking down internally and disconnecting randomly.

      Hope this helps…

Rick, I’ll try these tonight, for a week, will let you know what happens, thanks!!

The solution in my case was simple. I just rebooted and the problem was solved. Sorry, I should have tried rebooting before posting my question. Nevertheless, thanks for the replies.

royw, thanks for posting this anyway, I still have the similar problem w/desktop/W7 — usb Tab3 & flipphone not recognized nor drivers updated by that particular unit. My laptops so far do recognize said usb devices.
