Win8.1 preview is also out. #2172278I revived 2 new CU updates kb4532693 and kb4535996. not sure why there were 2. also a Windows defender update and the .NET update.
All installed with no problems. this brings me up to version 18363.693

AskWoody LoungerI am not sure why my original post was deleted but let me try again.
First thank you Susan for a well thought out and written Post. There are many of us on this site who every month report that we download all updates as soon as they come out with no problems . We are ether ignored or shouted down. I think in many cases instead of screaming about Microsoft you should be taking a long hard look at your own computer and how its configured.
I have long believed but can offer no proof that the large majority of problems people have with patches are due to third party apps that try to force Windows into doing things it was never meant to do. In my many years of using win7 and now many years of using win10 i can count on one hand the number of problems i have had and they were all minor. i too do regular back ups but to be be honest i have been forced to use one.

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 16, 2020 at 10:11 am in reply to: Microsoft pulls KB 4524244, the infamous UEFI patch, from the Catalog #2141581As i said i agree with you completely and i have always installed all of Microsoft patches as soon as they come out going back to my WIN7 days and i can count on one hand the number of times i have had any problems. The one exception is if Microsoft pulls a patch completely from Windows update (and that rarely happens) i will uninstall the patch and wait for them to reissue it.

Let me first say i totally agree with your philosophy on windows patches however under the circumstances since Microsoft has acknowledged the patch is faulty dont you think it would be prudent to uninstall it whether it affects you or not?

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 15, 2020 at 2:21 pm in reply to: Microsoft pulls KB 4524244, the infamous UEFI patch, from the Catalog #2141294I had the 44 update but apparently was never offered the 96 patch. I had no problems with it but went ahead and uninstalled it. But i am very curious what problems these patches were supposed to be causing. I do not remember seeing anything other than the curiosity of what they were patching.

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 30, 2020 at 2:31 pm in reply to: The perils of shouting “fire” in a crowd of PC patchers #2112149Completely disagree with your article. I would much rather be safe than sorry. And as always when you talk about how horrible Microsoft’s patches are you fail to mention that the overwhelmingly large majority of Windows users are not affected.

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 17, 2020 at 11:23 am in reply to: Is your system susceptible to a ChainOfFools/CurveBall CVE-2020-0601 attack? #2086280I think the test page looks pretty iffy. I show OK using chrome with a patched system but looking at the other comments makes me wonder how reliable this test is.
Whats the big deal with installing the update? Its been 3 days since Patch Tuesday and i have not seen any problems reported. Usually by now especially on Ask Woody you would see all kinds of problems Posters are having.
