    • Extra to Mr Jim: I have two Seagate 1 TB USB external hard drives. The only thing My desktop has two  1.5 usb ports, and and four 2.0 usb ports. It’s looking like everything is going to 3.0 ports.

    • Thanks for you answer so quickly.  There is a few items of HP “bloatware” that windows 7 has no comparison to, that is why I wanted to use the discs.  Incidentally, all 5 discs are labeled ; 4 labeled with  Recovery and one labeled Supplemental Recovery.  These were factory fresh and never used.  Received them when my computer gave up on me and HP replaced most parts in March 2010.  Everything went well until Dec. 2016. The trouble is that I don’t know which disc is what. Am running a desktop with 8 GB ram and 1 TB HHD.  Had trouble and changed bios from RAID to AHCI in order for windows to come up. It operates alright now but I can’t piecemeal install the HP items I need.

You can wait on that one. Put it in your hide file to be installed later. It won’t disrupt your computer to do this.

In Windows 7 SP 1 x64 Home premium you can bring up excel file, click box in upper right, then go to documents page, click on second excel file, click upper right box and you now have two excel files on screen on top of each other. Move top page to left and now you have two different excel pages side by side. You can, now work both pages and transfer bits from one to another, etc.

I am running Windows 7 SP1 x64 home premium desktop on a HP Pavilion series m6520y desktop with 6gb memory & 1TB HHD. My system was re-established by a trusted tech on 12/02/2016.

I have found something interesting in my regedit files. Last December, I deleted MS SPYNET. Now I have found numerous sub files within regedit that are labeled with SpyNet! Haven’t figured it out yet.

    • Interesting! Is MS really giving in to us Windows 7 users? I am anxiously awaiting the article! I am sure that a new copy of Windows 7 would be riddled with ‘SpyNet’.

    • in reply to: Reminder: How to get Win7, 8.1 and Win10 patched #99087

Just my thoughts:  When MS says all updates should be installed (Win 7, 8.1) I think that what they are saying is that the door WILL be closed on these OS’s and the only OS’ on the market will be Win 10 operating systems and software.  That is the reason that MS has high-jacked Intell and other hardware and software developers!  You get a new computer that is clean (nothing installed) and you try to install Win 7 or 8.1 on it, neither is accepted by the new hardware/software OS’s.  Just my understanding.

@ PKCano:  I tried an install of 3185278 onto my HP Desktop with Windows 7 SP 1 x 64 Home Premium; and the return message stated that  “this update is not compliant with this computer”.  I guess that this means that it would not benefit Win 7 SP1 x64 Home Premium. All that want to try it; it either installs or won’t.  I am kind of ‘willy- nilly’ in reinstating my system. I try something, if it won’t work then I go to the next.  I really would like to find a good test laptop to test items on.  Not too expensive of one but decent one.

    • I have no problem letting GWX Control Panel run on my windows 7 sp1 x64 home premium desktop. It takes up no room and has never slowed my desktop down.

I have Windows 7 SP1 x64 home premium desktop and if I finish an Excel file and save it documents, it automatically placed under category Excel, which has a list by date and topic. I can, later, go to documents and click on my excel doc and do whatever to it and save it or print it or whatever.

I, also, received this update on thursday, the 23rd. I immediately hid it until further investigation could be completed. If it is hid, it will show up again in March’s (Feb-Mar) update package. You would be safer to hide it for now.

I thank all for your help and advice in this matter.  I found that if I uninstalled everything that had to do with the MS Combo units, I took each item and installed individually;  the combo unit would work!!!  1st the mouse, 2nd the keyboard, 3rd the transceiver , then activate and you do not have to restart.  I was using usb mouse and keyboard.  It is imperative  that your unplug them as the activation of the wireless items is taking  place.  Again I thank all for your indulgence.

Tried the download of software and it didn’t work..  I appreciate everyone’s advice. I’ll just try to find the right combination.  The USB mouse and keyboard that came with this computer is S L O W.

Older ms 5000 came with DVD software but newer unit MS 5050 did not. It has a newer software on website. I will download it again and install it. We’ll see what happens.!
