AskWoody LoungerMarch 16, 2018 at 10:57 am in reply to: Buggy Windows 7 Monthly Rollup KB 4088875 — no acknowledgment from Microsoft #176180I just checked with both a physical and VM Win7 boxes, and neither 4088875 or 4088878 was offered, FWIW.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 29, 2017 at 12:38 pm in reply to: HP is installing new spyware, “HP Touchpoint Analytics Client,” but the infection vector remains unclear #148415I agree completely, and I plan on removing it from our machines, but what I’ve found on them so far seems to back up the Casey and Piltch. AskWoody LoungerAugust 22, 2017 at 9:46 am in reply to: Brad Smith, MS chief legal officer, leaves US Commerce Dept’s Digital Economy Board of Advisors #130298As I see it, mr. Pence will fall too, so the future looks bright, but who’s next in line to take over then? Mr. Ryan?
Yes. If things really fall apart I’d be rooting for Mattis. But then he’s probably too ethical to be President.

AskWoody LoungerJuly 28, 2017 at 3:22 pm in reply to: Microsoft releases KB 3213643, 2956078, 4011078, 4011052 to fix June Outlook security bugs #126936Before I do anything on a large scale I decided to test this on a Win7 box with Office 2010 SP2. I verified that it has KB3203467 installed, but when I check for windows updates it’s not offering me KB2956078. Am I missing something obvious?

AskWoody LoungerIn addition to older hardware continuing to still be usable, it’s that a lot of people are using desktops and laptops less and less. Like a lot of IT people, my home is unusually high in computers. Three desktops, two HTPCs, a laptop my wife and I share, one for each daughter in college. But in all honesty, unless I’m working I spend a lot more time on my phone or my iPad than any of my “real” computers.

AskWoody LoungerJuly 25, 2017 at 7:14 am in reply to: KB 4025331 for Server 2012 and KB 4025336 for Server 2012 R2 breaking WSUS and SCCM #126284I can confirm no problem with those updates. I believe that problem is there only for some SSL enabled wsus servers ( more details in topick on MS forum)
I know it definitely affected both of the Server 2012 R2 WSUS servers in my SCCM environment. I verified I was getting the errors in windowsupdate.log on multiple machines, removed the relevant KB and everything went back to normal. *sigh*

AskWoody LoungerJuly 24, 2017 at 7:44 am in reply to: Fall Creators Update will remove some Windows features #126127So if they’re canning standalone EMET, but you disable Defender (or use a 3rd party AV), I guess you’re SOL. Smart idea. /s
The end of EMET has been coming for a while now. EOL for it has been extended to July of 2018, but if I were using it I’d use that time to find another solution.
