AskWoody LoungerWhen the “bigger and better” upgrade comes out they might have fixed 2004, so 2004 would be the upgrade choice.
At present you have a couple of months to decide whether to go to 1909 or 2004.
cheers, Paul
I checked again and I do have the 1909 version of Win Pro. I will probably wait as long as possible before going to the next update. Thanks for your help.

AskWoody LoungerI have Win 10 pro with 1904. Do you know if it will be possible to just go straight to the 20H2 or will we have to do 2004 first then 20H2? Thanks

AskWoody LoungerI know what you mean Satrow. All of the ones listed look like off the wall checkers and I don’t normally hold much stock in them. I too normally look for the major A/V’s and there were none of those. I’m sure the file is ok but was just surprised there were that many that popped up.

AskWoody LoungerNot sure if I can post it here but just google VirusTotal and it will come up.

AskWoody LoungerThis Anti Removal Tool sounds good but when I downloaded it and ran it thru VirusTotal it came up with 6 things wrong with the tool. They could be false positives but that it quite a few.

AskWoody LoungerThanks all, I did it and it worked just as you said. Not that I want 2004 but it still says that my computer is not ready for it yet. Any idea what is “not ready”. Thanks again

AskWoody LoungerWin 10 home 1909. Installed Febuary updates exept optionnal
KB4535996. Everything is ok. Anybody have installed KB4535996 ?
Is it ok ?
I did the optional update on both of my computers, everything seems to be working normally.

AskWoody LoungerThanks but no thanks. When the Feb. bugs are corrected in Mar. and the Mar. bugs seem to be under control I’ll reevaluate and maybe update then. For now, nothing in the Feb. updates to v1903 make me weak in the knees with anticipation. I’m too lazy to deal with a disappearing desktop even if the chances of that happen are not very good.
It is Microsoft’s fault that I choose to play it safe rather than be sorry.
I know what you mean. I don’t see anything different with my computer after the update. I just didn’t want to get too backed up with updates.

AskWoody LoungerI decided that it was time to take the update plunge. Totally updated both mine and my wife’s Dell laptops ver 1909 and running Windows Defender AV. Everything went as advertised with no problems. Now I can’t wait till next Tue when we can do it all again.

AskWoody LoungerThere may well be something unspecified in the patches/updates that, down the road a piece, may cause a wanted/needed update to stall at xx% without explanation.
Which is precisely why I rarely recommend that people skip a month entirely. It’s just a matter of timing.
Then, are you saying here in a few days just before patch Tue should we do the updates from the last patch Tue?

AskWoody LoungerI’ve been watching the MS-DEFCON rating religiously since my pause runs out on March 3. I’m on v 1903 Home. Since there is no way to extend the pause, is there anything else I can do to prevent the updates until we get to MS-DEFCON 3 or Woody/Susan give the go-ahead?
BTW — I’ve got metered connection set, but I know it will automatically download some updates as soon as the pause is lifted.
On other Windows forums, I have heard this one (StopUpdates10) mentioned quite a bit. Haven’t used it …yet.

AskWoody LoungerUp at the top, in great big numbers, is the DEFCON Rating on patching.
When it changes to 3 or above, Woody will put up a blog post and publish instructions for safe patching in a ComputerWorld article. As long as the Rating is 1-2, it means WAIT to patch.
That will give you the answer to your questions. You can read about the DEFCON System by clicking the “MS-DEFCON System” button in the top menubar.
Thank you very much for your insightful reply.

Patch reliability is unclear, but widespread attacks make patching prudent. Go ahead and patch, but watch out for potential problems. |
