Thank you. I should’ve read AKB2000016 before posting. I’ll do that and follow your 2000013 guide for updates each month.

In the meantime, should I hit ‘Retry’ on WU (due to error because my previously blocking the service after 2004 began to initialise) or just leave it to look for the updates itself, and then download them when WU finds them?

Update: Ran wushowhide and hid the 2004 update, then switched Network setting to metered connection, restarted and then re-ran wushowhide. I verified that the 2004 update is hidden (the only one shown in the list) and is not available to be hidden.

If it’s best not to use ‘Check for updates’ for WU, should I just wait (up to 36 hours) for the remaining updates, excluding 2004, to install themselves? Windows Update is set to Manual start, as per the guide. StopUpdates10 is completely disabled as of now.

PKCano, thank you for your input on this and I’ll be sure to give those sections in your guide a careful read. However, when you said in your post about “deferral switches in WU under Advanced options” I am not sure which setting toggle you’re referring to? Thanks again for your input 🙂

Hi Elly, thank you for your prompt and detailed reply. Yes, I do have Group Policy set to ‘2 = Notify before downloading and installing any updates.’ for Configure Automatic Updates.

I will follow your advice for future reference, and refer to the PKCano guide you linked. I’ll post back and let you know how it goes. Thanks again for your time and your helpful response.

Hi everyone, I couldn’t find a new member subforum, so thought I might as well make my first post here. I’m on Windows 10 1909, having upgraded from Windows 7 just over a week ago; I was slightly reluctant, but my PC needed a clean install as I hadn’t done one in ages. Since Windows 7 became EOL, I bit the bullet and upgraded, and then did a clean install following that.

I am now up and running and, actually relevant to this thread, am using Windows Update Blocker, which enables/disables the Windows Update and Windows Update Medic Service services without needing to go into services.msc every time. Simple but effective 🙂
