It downloaded and installed perfectly without a restart. Still not finding the “Get Win 10 nagware”, (not that I want it). Thanks PK. Win 7 Pro, SP1 x64, i7Core “Haswell”

AskWoody LoungerMarch 8, 2019 at 12:32 pm in reply to: They’ll have to pry Win7 from my cold, clutched claws – Seven Semper Fi #339022The guy who keeps my 5 year old HP ZBook 17 humming along, (Win 7 Pro, x64 SP1, i7-4700 Haswell MQ CPU, 8 GB) suggested to me, after the most recent service a couple of months back, that I consider installing an SSD. I’m somewhat undecided with the demise of Win 7 now less than a year away. I’m not sold on Win 10, given what I read in these forums and in conversations with my “tune-up” guy. He’s not a fan either and he services alot of Win 10 machines. 7 Semper Fi. PS: No way do I want my refrigerator spying on me!

AskWoody LoungerInstalled in this order for Win 7 x64 Pro, SP1, Grp. A, i7-Core Haswell, HP zBook: KB4486563, reboot, KB4487078, reboot, KB890830, no reboot required. Just got in the habit of installing patches individually after having multiple installs hang, take forever or fail. No problems. Thanks as always to Woody and the MVPs.

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 26, 2019 at 4:33 pm in reply to: Bott: New UK-based study shows Win10 Home users are “baffled by updates” #333499Ditto, Win 7 Pro, SP1, home user. Not thrilled at the idea of Win 10 and it’s many variations from what I’ve read in this venue. I do know what the Registry is, but stay out of it. Messin’ with it is way above my pay grade.

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 20, 2019 at 6:32 pm in reply to: Tell me the truth – Which is better, Chrome or Firefox? #329842Use FF 100% of the time. Thanks for the tip off to use “Startpage”; am now using it for most all searches. Duckduckgo as an alternative, but can’t view YouTube or Google maps with it. Don’t like Google’s general snoopiness. BTW, can anyone answer, is FF 65.0.1 good to go? Notifications to update have been pushed at me for about a week. I know a few weeks back the FF update was causing some issues.

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 1, 2019 at 5:40 pm in reply to: MS-DEFCON 4: There are a couple of niggling problems, but they’re for (ahem) edge-use cases. Go ahead and get Windows/Office patched #319779Win 7 Pro x64, SP1, i7-Core, Haswell, Grp. A. Installed KB4480970, KB 4481480. & KB890830 (MSRT). No problems here. I do download & install each patch individually and restart after each install rather than all at once. (With exception of MSRT which doesn’t require a re-boot to install.)
