AskWoody PlusJune 15, 2020 at 1:57 am in reply to: Avast fixes bug that made the June cumulative updates block many programs #2272381Can’t speak for Avast on Windows 10, but it turned out to be a menace for me on Windows 7 ESU recently. I was having so many problems I had just about concluded my Windows installation was hopelessly borked, but as soon as I uninstalled Avast and switched to Windows Defender backed up by Malwarebytes Premium, about eighty percent of my issues disappeared. (And several others vanished after I quit using Chrome.)
No kidding. I’ve heard complaints that win 7 users using avast are having issues simply shutting down their PC.

AskWoody PlusNovember 14, 2019 at 1:14 pm in reply to: Born: Microsoft incorrectly signed the MSRT update that’s been bouncing around. It’s fixed now. #2005427This was happening to me on Windows 8.1 as well.

It totally locks up your browser. Indeed The only way I could close firefox was through the task manager

AskWoody PlusI installed the (KB4520005)Monthly Rollup with no issues. But I also noticed the out of band rollup that was released October third (which I hid weeks ago) is gone.
FWIW I wasn’t going to install the out of band rollup anyway.

AskWoody PlusApril 4, 2019 at 2:09 pm in reply to: Microsoft acknowledges bug in Win8.1 March Monthly Rollup KB 4489881, fixes it in Monthly Rollup Preview #348839And I thought Win 8.1 was relatively safe from this kind of [nonsense]. Has M$ changed its ways? Has it learned anything from the mess it caused during the past 2 years? Perhaps it learned that plenty of home users will stick with Windows no matter what, so there is no need to change its ways.
Microsoft didn’t learn anything.

AskWoody PlusThanks @hopper15. Can you please provide a few details about your computer systems? That might be helpful to those trying to decide whether to install or wait.
All three are from Dell.
One Laptop is a x64 bit on a Intel I7 7700k on a Seagate 1 TB Hard Drive 2.70 GHZ with 12 GB of RAM. Another laptop is a X64 bit on AMD Radeon R6 1.90 GHZ on a 1 TB Seagate 1 TB Hard Drive with 8 GB of RAM.
The other is a desktop x64 bit running Intel I7-9700K 3.20 GHZ on a Seagate 4 TB Hard Drive with 12 GB of RAM. I had the hard drive replaced on this desktop last year though as the original HD was failing.
If you need any other details just let me know.

AskWoody PlusI’ve installed KB4487000 on 3 separate PC’s and I haven’t experienced one BSOD on any of them.

AskWoody PlusWe are BSOD as well with Feb updates. All Windows 8.1. We only run x64. Intermittent blue screen related to win32k.sys. Also 1 machine that restarted, after apply Feb updates, and fails to load Windows again after. A mouse pointer on the screen that you move around and that’s it. Restart again and you get into Windows can’t start recovery stuff. Three hours of bitlocker recovery keys and attempt fixes including restore point (which failed), and we ended up giving up and rebuilding it.
Assuming it is KB4487000 causing it. I see there is an KB4487000 that applies to Server 2012 R2 as well. Pulling that as well for safety.
If you don’t mind me asking but who’s we?

AskWoody PlusThere are not going to be Previews in Dec. It will be included in the Jan Rollups and SOs for Win7/8.1 and in the CUs for Win10.
If that’s the case I won’t be installing it. I’ll just wait for the Jan Rollup.
