Hello.  Thanks for your reply.  This is a different app to the Microsoft Copilot app (8kb) which was removed in the latest Edge update.

This is the Windows Copilot MSIX app which is around 50Mb in size and doesn’t seem related to the one removed by Edge. Not sure what it does. Thanks again.

Thanks very much for clearing that up. My son did a clean install of his laptop recently using the MS MCT which created a Recovery Partition of only 523MB. If this cannot be expanded by a patch, and we certainly won’t be going down the manual resizing route, then everything should be OK hopefully.  Thank goodness for Blockapatch and WUSH.

      Thanks again,  Jim.

Hi Paul, Thanks for your reply. I’ll wait and see what happens.  Hopefully soon.

      Thanks again. Jim.

    • in reply to: Windows 11 23H2 is around the corner #2596760

Thanks. So can I just format the USB to exFAT or NTFS and copy the ISO over for it to work or does anything else need to be done to the drive? I was also unsure about the language to select for the UK as the ISO choice doesn’t include UK English but the Media Creation Tool does? Location in Settings is obviously UK.

      Thanks again.

Hi, As per Susan’s advice I downloaded the Windows 11 22H2 ISO from Microsoft. When I try to transfer to a USB the message appears that the file is too big for the USB (which is isn’t)- the USB is FAT32. If I format the USB to exFAT or NTFS and transfer the ISO from the PC to the USB, will that work if I need to install Windows at a later date or does the USB need further action before transferring the ISO? Also, the ISO download only offers English (US) or English (International). For those of us in the UK, which should we choose – the Windows Media Creation tool offers English UK.

      Thanks for your help, Jim.

    • in reply to: Updating Drivers for Dell XPS 9710 #2582777

I know this post is marked as Resolved but I just wanted to add an observation. While I agree with what’s been said, I use Support Assist and/or Dell Update to search for updated drivers for our Dell machines. I would, however caution against simply downloading drivers from the Support website just because they are offered for your Service Tag. I have been offered driver updates from the website for devices not installed on the PC even when entering a Service Tag. This includes Firmware updates for several SSD’s none of which we have. It’s possible that the drivers would simply fail to install once downloaded but it’s best to do a thorough check in Device Manager beforehand. Dell Update lists the drivers installed on the PC under System Information when the program starts. Support Assist has become much more stable recently in Version 4 and I’m happy to wait for updates to appear however it’s best to be wary about BIOS updates.

      Hope this helps.

I believe the issue was fixed last night. Update 1.393.737.0 seems to have stopped the multiple same defender downloads. Only one (correct) download today. I paused and resumed updates several times and no Defender downloads for the same version was shown.

      Jim.

The annoying thing in my situation is that I don’t use Defender. I have Norton 360 and, when it’s installed, it takes over and turns off MS Defender.  I cannot access defender settings  without uninstalling Norton as it manages anti virus. Even with Defender turned off, the definitions, engine and anti Malware platforms are still downloaded silently. All a bit of a pain really.

      Jim.

Thanks for the link Microfix. Does this mean that a fix for this problem would need to wait for a platform update next month or would something be done before then? Not really sure if these duplicate updates are being downloaded or just registered as the original one shows as installed. I’m assuming Microsoft is aware of the problem? I have a Local Account so haven’t reported it myself. Would be interested in your opinion.          Jim.

I started another thread about this before being alerted to this one – thanks JC.

” I installed the July update for Windows 11 22H2, KB5028185, a couple of days ago. Since then I noticed several Windows Defender updates for the same definition number listed . Windows Update history only shows 1 successful installation, which is normal and this is done automatically after startup. However, several others are listed as installed after the first one and all with the same definition number. It would seem to suggest a bug in these Defender updates as it has only started after the July Cumulative update. If the original definition update has been successfully installed, would any further updates for the same definition be downloaded and installed or not processed and is a reporting issue?”

I paused Windows Update after installing the cumulative update and when I resume, it checks for updates, then the screen flashes (0.5sec) and then “Up To Date” appears but the original definition is listed as installed again.

Hi Susan, Thanks for the “badging” info. Is it also your understanding that these notifications can be turned off in Personalization/Start settings as per my above post? I know that this setting appeared in Preview/Development for this update – I’m not involved in this – but hasn’t made it to the final version. I’m assuming that for this setting to appear (hopefully before any “badges” do) this would require a further update?

      Thanks Jim.

    • in reply to: Master Patch List as of July 11, 2023 #2573370

I am hesitant to run Windows update soon after they are released so I haven’t downloaded the latest one to see how intrusive these “badges” are if you have chosen a Local Account. I normally wait at least a couple of weeks or until Susan gives the go ahead to see what issues appear.

Thanks for that. I believe the options to turn off the notifications looks like this. Not sure what’s going on with this setting as some people see this and some don’t.

Hopefully, if there is no way to turn these popups off they won’t appear. If they do can you post here? That would be very helpful.

      Thanks.

Are you seeing any MS Account popups if you are signing in with a Local Account? From what I’ve seen previously a yellow dot will show on the Account picture/icon on the Start menu. When you click this, the MS popup to try to change to an MS Account will show – not sure if it’s there all the time.

I posted a question about this in another thread in the forum –
      July’s Patch Tuesday is here
The reply showed that these notifications could be turned off in Settings/Personalization/Start/Show Account Related Notifications – On/Off.
