    • Notable RIP mentions – Office viewers always handy for offline formatting checks when using office alternatives (still can) – Media Centre which was one of my star attractions in XP, Vista and Seven then a paid add-on in Windows Pro editions of 8 and 8.1 is where it was put on life-support 🙁

    • in reply to: Chrome 97 stable with controversial Keyboard API #2410317

“Mozilla finally added the Keyboard Map API to the list of harmful APIs that it won’t implement in the Firefox web browser.” at least Mozilla got one thing right

    • in reply to: Does 0patch become a riskier alternative to ESU in 2022? #2410316

rick41, Why not try the ESU bypass as a third alternative? download patches using the MS catalog and manually install using the bypass scripts for both CU and .Net patches. Considering there are only 12 months remaining for ESU, this seems a viable option 😉

    • in reply to: Happy New Year – no power? #2410306

‘Nothing happened.’ ? so assuming there is no power to the Dell PC, I’d check the computer mains cable plug fuse to see if it has blown and replace it with an equivalent rated amperage fuse then switch on everything before writing off the PSU, it may or may not be that simple.

“Stay tuned, deeper analysis by this weekend.” sorry, I can’t see anything to indicate this on the site.

Windows 7 esubypass working as expected, no problems to report as a homeuser with much less beaconware by default.

brain flatulence oopsI Yes, I knew that, but with chromium being the root browser framework in the pyramid of blink, surely the above article is still relevant to these browsers. Good work by project zero although I’m still not convinced given the article findings. ymmv

either that, or someone has re-invented the wheel of security 🙂

Do you have a reason to believe that Edge is not secure?

With Edge being based on google chrome, makes it a bigger target as per the article linked below.

Google issues another security threat warning

Chrome is one of the leading browsers available; however, I can’t ignore that this is the fourth major security vulnerability in two months and the eighth zero-day hack this year. The number of attacks is steadily growing, and it is more important than ever to ensure that your browser is kept up to date.

      I share those concerns.

Simon Weel, Mozilla Thunderbird would be a worthy addition in my opinion

    • in reply to: Sliding over to LibreOffice — or not #2378770

LibreOffice, I would like to install the spreadsheet program only, is this possible for Windows 7? I’m not interested in installing a complete suite for just one program with excess baggage. Thank you

    • in reply to: Keep Running Windows 7 Safely for Years to Come #2378757

Nice informative thread for us Windows 7 users with plenty of options. I don’t class myself as a hold-out, just believe that this operating system is worthy of holding onto as one of the last M$ masterpieces going forward. Opinions vary

    • From my experience for July patches, installed SSU kb5004378 and Monthly Rollup kb5004289 using the bypass method. Restarted then installed Net4.8 kb5004116 using the slc redirection method. No problems to report since installation on the 15th july, all working well here, long live Windows 7!
