Au contraire dear chap I have been running it now for a couple of years since my copy of Acronis stopped working on Windows 10 and i can assure you it does offer cloning its just not under the menu options but under the drive partition display!

My fave backup was always Symantec Livestate recovery it worked wonders on our email servers and blackberry server as well as many other applications.

Acronis in my experience has the highest data compression rate but i am using macrium reflect at the mo and it has not let me down!

Cloning is probably the quickest way to get back up to speed and if you have spare storage i would say its the way to go – with backups you always have the problem of it getting corrupted with a clone all you will lose is out of date data and corruption you can probably recover from in less time!

I have a secondary hard drive in all my laptops now replacing the cd drive in the bay with a removeable drive tray so cloning every friday runs automagically and allows me if i have a problem to simply change the boot option and boot into the backup without any drive swapping or any other hassle within seconds – try doing that with an image!

Update the drivers from device manager manually!

Never rely on windows update – if all else fails download the update and install manually!

    • in reply to: FBI Private Industry Notification: Win7 is a leaky boat #2303874

I have windows 10 and window 7 on two identical laptops Dell E5530 and the windows 7 is smooth as silk and a pleasure to use – Windows 10 not so much so that is a primary reason to stick with win 7 on older machines for me and as i work in IT security its not so much a deal for me as i know what i am doing and have my own ids and firewall systems so am well protected – its not so much an issue for professional IT people.

Apart from that i recently installed windows 10 on a Dell D630 with the notorious Nvidia NV graphics card fault and windows 10 overheats the laptop and causes the processor to put the laptop into shutdown – windows 7 runs fine!

    • in reply to: Review effectiveness of AdBlock and AdRemover #2303873

I use Adblock (free version) few years and I must say it really makes my life better (dont worry, Im not trying to sell you something )

Pardon my interjection but your signature HAL3000 got my interest piqued = Is that a specific Czesky pc manufacturer as I have never seen it in Electrodom or any of the Slovak shops near me?

As for the main topic did ad blocker not have a recent issue with malware or dodgy advertising embedded within its code and does it not impact on browser responsiveness – has anyone actually tested how much impact it has on the browser?

      Dobru Popoludnie moja Cesky kameraden!

I just use registry favorites always have – every time i make a change i add that key to the faves list – just add hkey classes root to your faves that way you can start at the beginning of the registry quickly if you need to but mine is always set at one of the threeย  main the run keys just to make sure nothing has sneaked in unexpectedly to my startup even though i have locked all the run key permissions down.

    • in reply to: Best way to set up partitions? #2260342

I have a different methodology – OS on first partition – programs on second partittion,ย  third is data ie documents, pictures etc

If one of the encrypting viruses hits your machine the early ones hit the c drive if your data is all on an e drive then less likely to get borked.

If you do a re-install also makes things easier having your data on a different partition (or drive).

I actually have a fourth parittioon for my acronis backups of the other partitions which gets shuffled off by a powershell script to my secondary nas storage and external drive before the regular friday backup begins!

      Different strokes for different folks.

I also find just having the OS on the C drive makes the system slightly faster!
