Thanks Fred. I downloaded the USBView tool and now I have questions about what I am seeing. I have a fairly old Toshiba Satellite laptop still running Windows 7. The tool says I have 6 USB Hubs and each hub has either 6 ports or 3 ports. Two hubs are high speed compatible (2.0) and have 6 ports each. Four hubs are standard (1.0) and have 3 ports each.

Now there are only 3 external USB connectors. Why are there 6 hubs but only three connectors? What are the other hubs doing?

I have two devices plugged in externally.

      1) is my Western Digital backup hard disk drive which is plugged into the (2.0) hub at Port 1.

      2) my Logitech wireless mouse is plugged into one of the low speed hubs (1.0) at Port 2. If I move it to the other external connector it lists it on the same hub but at Port 3.

There is a third device listed as a composite device for Chicony Electronics Co. which is on the second high speed (2.0) hub at Port 1, but I don’t have any other device connected.  I am just guessing that it is the built in laptop camera. Could that be true?

So out of 6 hubs I see only 3 hubs being used for anything, and 19 ports unused.

      What are they there for?

SAD NEWS, installed the update and still got the popup today.

      Any other suggestions?

Thanks to @jabeattyauditor for the link. I downloaded and installed the latest version of DCU a day ago and so far I have not seen the popup. Since I didn’t necessarily see it every day, I can’t say for sure that the problem is solved, but I will keep you posted.

Have you looked at Yahoo groups. You can share pictures and documents. Any group member can send a message to the group from their listed email address without logging into Yahoo. I believe that you cannot add people who do not have Yahoo membership. Check it out. I believe that to join the group they have to have a Yahoo id, but they don’t need a Yahoo email and can list any email of their choice.

Not so dumb. Here’s what EnergyStar.gov says:
“External power supplies are devices that convert ac power from a wall outlet into lower voltage dc or ac power to be used directly by electronic circuits. External power supplies come in a separate physical enclosure than the end-use product, and usually provide power to the device directly through a separate cord and plug. External power supplies are used to power a variety of electronic devices, including: laptop computers, printers, cordless phones, cell phones, etc.”

When you see a power cord that has a big box connected to it (like you get with laptop power cords) or even a small box (like the power cord to recharge your cell phone) that’s an external power supply.

The point is that these power supplies are often specific to the device and they cost a lot more than a simple power cord and you would certainly expect that a desktop workstation would have it built in.
