    • in reply to: Opera on iOS rolling out free VPN for all users #2551672

Interesting… I was speaking to someone a few months ago, who was no longer able to use the VPN on Opera Browser (on a Win10 laptop). So I didn’t realise they were still doing it, as a matter of course.

    • “I built a Zero Day”… if your name is Aaron Mulgrew.
By not using any form of quotation in your topic title, it could be misconstrued (well, I checked to see…)

I suggest you might need to aim it at bbp_reply_author_link/

      and
      bbp_topic_author_link

rather than the user role of Author, if adding it to the theme?

A Plus subscriber… I can see Multiple problems, as it’s all intertwined with the subscription services.

It would probably be “easier” or “simpler” to get a text wrap custom workaround on the display of the usernames in the forum? And that is also, as always, subject to the law of unintended consequences.

I suspect this should be in the “let sleeping dogs lie” basket.

Would that be display names or user account names? For Instance, “Susan Bradley” makes up 13 characters… Winston Churchill, 17.

I’m not sure your reasoning – what have I missed?

    • Latitude has a number of financial products down under, not usually under that as a trading name. They also sell insurance products, which they are “not currently selling”.

Gem Visa is one of their products.

As of today, Latitude understands that approximately 103,000 identification documents, more than 97% of which
are copies of drivers’ licences, were stolen from the first service provider. Approximately 225,000 customer records
were also stolen from the second service provider.
Latitude apologises to the impacted customers and is taking immediate steps to contact them. Further updates will
be provided to the ASX and on Latitude’s website

per their ASX announcement, March 16th 2023

      X-Spam-Status: Yes

Rather than posting malspam/phishing here, the cause would be better served if you reported it online, such as SpamCop, using the Trace Email Analyzer at whatismyipaddress.

You can also add it to CleanTalk, by both the header IP and the stated and sender email addresses.

    • in reply to: How Secure Are Old iPhones? #2493804

The original SE models received the 15.7.1 security update in the last few days.

    • in reply to: Where to find “Windows Secrets” articles? #2493803

There is no category called “Windows Secrets” that I know of.

All the articles were integrated into their respective topics within the AskWoody Lounge 🙂

    • in reply to: How Secure Are Old iPhones? #2489583

Surely, the bottom line is that the iPhone SE’s current iOS 15.7 is “current” (not superseded), at this point in time…?

Your iPhone SE is still receiving current updates. While that is happening, you should be “safe enough”… (my cynicism thinks having to pay for new hardware while your existing still works and while it can receive updates, is a ploy to fatten their wallets, at the detriment to yours).

Still, it depends on how you are using your phone, as to whether its use is appropriate. Is it connecting to the internet, or just making calls and texts??? If it’s actively connecting (i.e. for maps, location tracking etc), you would have a bigger need to update sooner than otherwise. However, I don’t believe that’s this week.

    • in reply to: Proposal for Nesting and Replies #2478416

The change of nesting down to three levels just didn’t work for practical purposes.

And I think auto-quoting a full, long post would lead to major frustrations for a proportion of users (especially those on mobile devices/tablets, while we don’t have any page navigation features). But I do agree wholeheartedly with Microfix’s frustration at the almost nonsense being made of replies.

    • in reply to: Serena Williams has retired and I’m all cut up about it. #2474964

While you can’t deny her impact over such a long career, and the numerous accolades she earned along the way, I find is somewhat interesting that her “less-than-elegant” moments have been wiped under the carpet recently.

Her behavior has been truly awful on many occasions (she is not alone, as some of the top mens’ players are also atrocious). While it may not be polite to mention her many foibles on her parting, something of a re-writing of history appears to be taking over those many occasions she made me, as a fan, cringe. I have felt very sorry for her opponents far too often.

I imagine her legacy would have been far greater if she hadn’t let herself, and “the side”, down as a whole. When RF finally retires officially, there will be a big, undeniable comparison in sports-person-ship…

Yes, she will be missed. But I do look forward to seeing the upcoming generation of players show us their best – there’s a good lot of talent there too. What a pity Ashleigh Barty chose to retire so early.

PS I found it upsetting that the accolades for the as-yet unofficial retirement came before congratulating the match winner on the day.

    • a lot of ignorant people (3 out of 4) use banking apps on their phone

Sorry, but I don’t believe this ad homonym characterisation is entirely called for.

I have a lot of clients whose only access to their bank is now by the only computing device they own… their phone. Their local branch has either closed (in some cases meaning several hours’ trips costing a vast amount of money and atmosphere-destroying fossil fuel use) or the hours have been so reduced as to be impossible to visit,or they have mobility challenges. Their cheques have been decommissioned, so the only way they can pay anyone is via internet banking (especially in a pandemic lockdown or just keeping themselves safe, when visiting to pay by eftpos isn’t appropriate).

Ok, rant over. It may well be unwise and far from ideal, but far too many people have no other choice.

    • You may also know that clicking a Microsoft-provided ad in DuckDuckGo will reveal your IP address to the Microsoft Advertising service—this is explicitly stated on DuckDuckGo’s website and in the company’s search engine.

From: DuckDuckGo Isn’t as Private as You Thought
      By: Andrew Heinzman | May 24, 2022

He goes on to discuss “that the mobile DuckDuckGo browser does not block Microsoft trackers on third-party websites, such as the Facebook-owned Workplace.com.
… that Microsoft cannot see what you search in DuckDuckGo, and the DuckDuckGo browser blocks all Microsoft cookies.”
