I have a question regarding KB 4530692. I understand that it includes the KB 4493132 nagware that installs an executable file that will be run daily on Windows. So far I am disinclined to install it. Is there anything that can be done about the nagging if I do install it?

PS: the correct sequence for for installation is still KB 4530692 and KB 4530677 before the December SSU KB4531786, right?

I updated according to the instuctions given by PKCano. Afterwards, I checked for the pci.sys file version and it is 6.1.7601.17514. Does this mean the update wasn´t succesful? Does this that there is a problem?

I installed the May updates today. The pciclearstalecache is still where I downloaded it along with the security only patch (in Destktop). What does this mean? Can I delete from the Desktop? Thank you in advance for any help.

I am Win7 user and will obviously have to migrate to another platform as the end of support gets closer. Understandably, it is being suggested that we move to ChromeOS, but why not also discuss an alternative such as macOS? Some of us do prefer greater levels of privacy and appreciate the option to use other browsers than Chrome. Does anyone have an opinion on the matter?

    • It is not perfectly clear to me. Are you saying that one has to download KB3177467 v2 before the October updates even if v1 is already installed?

      Thanks

    • I re-checked. KB3177467 is not installed.

I installed the september patches when Woody gave the all clear, but without having installed the servicing stack update KB3177467 beforehand. I haven’t encountered any problems so I am disinclined to install it now. I prefer to let sleeping dogs lie because I don’t trust Windows. Am I correct?

    • Thank you Woody for the information.

It is my understanding that we need to manually install both the July and the August updates. Am I right or can the July patches be skipped?

If the answer is no, is it necessary to install KB 4338823 prior to to KB 4345459 or will the latter only suffice?

      Thanks.

I know that Defender in Win7 is useless. Does this mean that it´s better to deactivate it and rely on my third party AV? Does letting Defender run imply a security risk?

Thanks Microfix, I will try that.
