Thanks, but I’m asking here because the info on Microsoft’s site is vague.

My CPU is older and isn’t in Intel’s list of currently supported CPUs that are vulnerable.

How do I know if it’s vulnerable? Is there a test?

Should I install Microsoft’s patch just in case?

Sounds like Ctrl+W is the solution. Just close the tab, it’s a fake warning.

In addition to Windows Defender, you can install a browser extension from a reputable security company, such as:

      • Trend Micro Check
      • Malwarebytes Browser Guard

Additionally, you can configure the router, each PC (ie Windows), or the browser to use a safer DNS provider such as:

      • Quad9
      • CloudFlare

Finally, some ISPs offer protection against malicious sites at the router level.

Also, make sure that SmartScreen (reputation-based protection) is enabled in Windows settings and that “Standard Protection” is enabled in Chrome (if they use Chrome).

My Win 10 installation has a hidparse.sys in both System32 and System32\drivers. They both have exactly the same created and modified dates.

Really? How were they able to confirm that?

NGEN is a tool that improves the performance of managed applications. It compiles .NET apps to optimize them for your CPU.

I have a folder like that in my C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Temp. It’s size is <10MB. So what?

And I have 400+ “tw” empty folders in C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local going back to April 20, 2022.

      That *seems* wrong.

Windows 11 (or the next one) would be exciting if they rewrote the kernel in Rust. That would be something exciting. I’m not going to replace my hardware and OS for nothing. It would also be exciting if the new Intel CPUs for Windows 11 were as energy-efficient than Apple’s M.2 (I’m not an Apple fanboy, but it’s time for a new Intel/AMD RISC architecture).

Don’t install anything with the word “clean” in its name… It’s likely not!

As for the task bar, I want mine on top!  After all, all the other task bar like things are on the top of windows, and the mouse is normally near the top of the screen, a short trip up and a long trip down.

Exactly! They made it fixed and chose possibly the worst position at bottom.

I receive many spam calls but most are in the spam folder. Same for SMS. They always use a different phone number which looks like a local number but I suspect they can spoof Caller ID.
