    • What about the Money feature coming to Excel? Will act like old MS Money and download financial data from your banking institutions? I believe it’s part of the ‘upgrade’ to Microsoft 365.

Well, that was easy… works great. Thanks much. Seems easy after seeing it…

Very interesting. I have Macrium Reflect installed. I was going to re-image from a backup since it seems the bootloader on the SSD has lost it’s way. It wouldn’t let me do the imaging directly, so it rebooted into Windows PE. Before the re-image started, I saw a menu with “Repair boot drive” or something like that. I halted the re-image and ran the boot drive correction stuff. It basically renames the drive, resets the boot loader, and verifies the files.

Lo and behold, it worked. Thanks for the interesting read!

Yes, I’ve been through the whole F2, F12 stuff. That’s how I got into the machine – by booting into the old drive. At that point the PC says I’m not using a genuine version of Win7 and I couldn’t see the SSD. I gad to go into dskmgmt to re-assign a drive letter so I could then see the SSD.

I tried to do that but couldn’t figure it out.

    • Interesting. I’m having similar issues with a Samsung SSD which I used in conjunction with Paragon Migrate…and in a Del XPS 9000 (435).
I used Paragon Migrate to copy Win 7 to a Samsung SSD last January. No issues, been performing flawlessly since. Now I think Win10 tried to install itself 2 weeks ago. Of course it was the day before we left on vacation and my wife was at the PC.
My PC no longer booted, the SSD was no longer visible in Explorer (after I booted from the old hard drive). I went into dskmgmt and assigned a drive letter and could see it. However there’s no boot partition on the SSD. Odd.

I get a “BOOTMGR missing, ctl-alt-del to restart” when trying to boot from the SSD. I’ve tried everything I can think of to make the SSD bootable again but no luck.

After booting from the old hard drive, I get messages telling me windows is not genuine. Not sure how that came about either.
I tried installing Win10 iso directly from a USB but it doesn’t recognize a valid install of Win 7. I even managed to load a backup image to no avail.

I’m at my wit’s end what to do.

Found out today that there is no such thing really as a clean install. Win10 will only install if Win 7 or Win 8 are installed.

Thanks for the reply but I’m still left with the multiple Inboxes, one for each email.

      Hi all,
I have a Dell XPS L501X laptop (Win 7 Home), about 4 1/2 years old that no one wanted to use because it was ponderous. Wifi connectivity via the Dell basic adapter took several minutes (never could figure out the slowness). The whole dang thing just felt bloated and slow (like me after Thursday night spaghetti dinner!).

Since it was sitting around doing nothing, decided to install Win 10. After updating, which went off without a hitch, all aspects of the laptop were zippier. Everyone even kind of liked the graphical layout of tiles, etc (we never used Win 8). Even the nic connected faster.

Last weekend I decided to take an ‘extra’ SSD and toss it into the mix. I had a 120gb SSD originally intended for my desktop. I decided it was too small. So it was sitting around doing nothing. I downloaded the Win 10 iso, installed the SSD and went for it.

After the install was finished, I noticed my screen resolution was not right. Some research showed the graphics driver was a default MS driver. Hmmm. What to do. I decided to reboot.

BTW, boot time on a new ssd with a clean install now takes 17 seconds. Quite a reduction from 4 minutes! The reboot cleared up the graphics issue and I could select my full resolution.

Overall I think Win 10 is pretty good. I do have an issue with multiple login tiles for the same Users. 3 users but 6 login tiles. Very odd. I also am not a Cortana fan. Seems cumbersome although she does work (until the wife starts saying things while I’m asking Cortana questions! ON PURPOSE!). She though it was hilarious.

Anyway, the home crowd is pleased the laptop is quite usable. I’m a hero again….just like after killing spiders…

    • Yes, all my docs, pics, music, etc are on the hard drive s formatting is a last option. I could move everything to an external drive and reformat – which might be best – but I want to avoid that for now because it’s time consuming. I’ll try the ownership route although I think I already took ownership, but I’ll check again.

LesF, you should by your own modem. I believe Comcast raised their lease price to $10. You can pick up a Motorola Surfboard modem like the SB6122 for about $80. I bought mine over 2 years ago and that’s a bit of money saved. You can check the Comcast site for compatible modems.

If this is still being watched…
I’ve been using Dashlane password manager. I used LastPass but had some issues with it and my bank. Regardless of settings it tried to autolog in to my bank site.

Dashlane has one thing I don’t like, and that’s the inability to create new categories for passwords. Other than that it works fine. Also stores online receipts.

Incorrect I say! 2 can return WITHOUT his instrument which should reduce the time to 1 minute rather than 2 for a total of 16 minutes!

Another one for Solitaire (XP version, I don’t know about Win7). Make a legal move, but *before* releasing the mouse button, press so that the card(s) fly back to where they were. Then click any other card…….

This didn’t appear to do anything until I clicked on a card when an empty space was open. I moved a 3 clubs to the empty space. I also put a black queen on a 5! Interesting cheat.
