    • in reply to: Forwarding email when changing ISPs #1513161

A friend of mine changed from Earthlink/Mindspring to another ISP, and they let him keep his address for forwarding purposes for about $5/month. Would Comcast have something like that?

I’ll bet the folks in the Little Ice Age were glad to have cars to warm up the world for them.

    • in reply to: Transferring Eudora data files #1466264

I use MozBackup. It does everything for you.

      cheers, Paul

Does MozBackup work with Eudora? The Web page doesn’t list it. I’ve installed it on computers with both Thunderbird and Eudora installed, and it doesn’t offer to back up Eudora files.

The smiley face should have been a clue, plus the general agreement with your suggestion.

    • in reply to: Scam possible or not? #1450225

TB is like a nanny. I have several newsletters that TB fears (including Windows Secrets), and TB has added some to the list over time. There is no way to tell TB that the e-mail isn’t a scam, and asking different forums at Mozilla several times still gets the reply that allowing TB to be trained about scams is not a high priority. I’ve been told to add the address to my contacts list (didn’t work), mark it as not junk (didn’t work), turn off scam detection (which I may give up and do), and just to live with it. I like TB, but I’m getting tired of clicking on the “Ignore Warning” button several times a week. Anybody from Mozilla here and listening?

    • in reply to: Password managers can let you down #1442465

You can export your site information and form fill data to an external file, and you can protect those files if you want. If LastPass has issues, the info is still there.

Did you ask WinPatrol if they have any information?

    • in reply to: Screensaver doesn’t go on #1322215

I have a wireless mouse, and I noticed that my screensaver stopped activating when I installed the mouse. I haven’t unplugged the USB receiver to check, but I’d guess that the computer is still active, so the screensaver is never activated.

    • in reply to: What’s your feeling about the Ribbon and why? #1321429

All of this sound and fury is great, but does anyone really think Microsoft cares? They moved the “Show Desktop” button in Win7 from lower left to lower right, not for any real benefit, but because someone thought it would be “better.” A little thing, but telling. The graphics in Win7 and Office2010 are childish blobs, and the drawbacks have been listed here several times. It won’t matter, however, because MS is going to do things the way it wants. You Will Use It The Way We Say, And You Will Enjoy Using It The Way We Say.

    • in reply to: Audio clip in e-mail signature line? #1304233

Email signatures, like usenet signatures, should be a maximum of 4 lines of 80 characters. Anything else implies either self importance (yes, I realize some companies auto attach hundreds of lines of legaleze cr*p to the emails), or incompetence.

But Netiquette, line Usenet, is no longer a part of the learning process for newbies. Top-posting, shouting, all of the poor behavior continues because no one realizes how to behave.

    • in reply to: Google + now open to everyone #1301866

Of course Google will let anyone in. They need as many users as possible to provide more data to sell to marketers. The initial “invite only” nonsense was only to drum up interest, and provoke a “Let me into the club” attitude.

Electric Box is a good one, but maybe this is what you’re looking for. I made it through, finally, and it makes you think.
