Don’t shoot me, but….
I just upgraded my production Windows 8.1 machine – the one I’ve been using for years – to Windows 10. I’ve probably done 50 Win10 upgrades over the past ten months, and this upgrade was just as slick as could be. I waited for the notification, went over to Windows Update, clicked to install Windows 10, clicked again to give my OK, and went to grab a few cups of coffee.
Absolutely no problems. Clear sailing.
For those of you suffering with Windows 8/8.1, I heartily recommend the upgrade. Wait for it to come to you, and you’ll have fewer problems.
If you’re using Win7 on your main machine, wait. There are still many difficulties yet to be solved.
Yes, I know I gave in to Automatic Updates – assimilated into the Botched Borg. No, I don’t use OneDrive very much. Yes, I’m 100% mouse on this machine.
My main machine is a Dr. Frank-N-Furter that I assembled myself several years ago from NewEgg pieces, all standard components, nothing fancy. Remember, I’m cheap. As for peripherals and their drivers, there’s the DAS keyboard (highly recommended) and Logitech Performance MX mouse. A big honking Dell screen that I schlepped by hand from Hong Kong to Phuket six years ago, then shipped to Nashville when I moved last year. Cheap Logitech 5.1 sound. HP OfficeJet 8600 wireless. Blue Snowball mike, which Cortana seems to appreciate. Still no camera, but that’ll change as soon as the “Windows Hello” cameras start shipping in a couple of months.
If you’ve made the upgrade, chime in here in the comments. If you’ve hit any problems, let me know about those, too!
