      June 19 is also Juneteenth (short for โ€œJune Nineteenthโ€) marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed…Juneteenth honors the end to slavery in the United States.

        No that was after Dec 18 and the passing of the 13th Amendment.

          Yet Juneteenth is celebrated today.

          Apparently the folks in Texas weren’t told they were free until two and 1/2 years later so it’s deemed the end of slavery as some slaves were not told.

          So while December 18th/amendment was when documents were signed, people were still enslaved for two and 1/2 more years.
