It seems that those products cannot handle updates signed with SHA-2 only. See the MS Support pages for the update you are missing and the Norton website for further information..

AskWoody PlusAugust 19, 2019 at 8:29 am #1911875I’ve bookmarked the Norton link for the SHA-2 Norton/MS issue. Once there is a fix from either or both ends I plan on installing all August updates at the same time. Hopefully this fix will fit in nicely when Woody moves the Def2 level up. Here’s the Norton link https://support.symantec.com/us/en/article.tech255857.html

ManagerAugust 19, 2019 at 8:40 am #1911879I do not have Norton on my test machines.
But I have been patching my Win7/8.1 machines Group A with all patches at once and have had no problems.
In the case of the Win7, SHA-2 KB4474419 v.1 and SSU KB4490628 as well as the older Bitlocker-related KB3133977 had already been previously installed.
These are test (not production) machines not being used on a daily basis, so I may not have experienced some of the other problems (like VB issues). -

AskWoody LoungerAugust 20, 2019 at 12:10 am #1912831SO glad this site is here!
I must say, though, that in all the click-bait hysteria, I am very disappointed that so many InfoSec online sites have been bleating ‘PATCH IT NOW OR…”, including ones that I have been reading for years. It’s especially disheartening to get to the bottom paragraph, and read something like “…although not in the wild…” Sigh. I’m going to start reading these articles from the bottom up.
(I brought something like this up in my post https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/cves-vulnerabilities-etc-vs-real-world-actual-hits-any-measures-statistics/ )
Next I guess we’ll be reading about how we should dance around our PC’s blowing horns and banging on pots to scare the IT Incubus and Succubi away.
Here come the Digital Dark Ages, but not the way the Big Wigs write about…

AskWoody_MVPAugust 29, 2019 at 3:50 pm #1925377We are at MS-DEFCON 2 (posted at the top) and it is not yet safer to patch. Reports are still coming in — and most describe difficulties in either installation or system operations.
When MS-DEFCON 3 is posted, it will be advisable to patch with caution.
