No, it won’t. Microsoft’s AI will download and install 1903 on your PC starting this month with no way to defer installation unless you us a 3rd party app.

I know how to cut, paste, and create a block quote, but how do you get the “Alex5723 wrote:” part entered with different font, size and underlined etc?

Testing a “post quote”. The old method of posting a reply with just a portion of the text using “Quote” doesn’t seem in sync with the current layout. The entire text of a post is shown as opposed to selected text I’ve highlighted prior to tapping the “Quote” button at bottom right. Specifically, I tap “Reply” then select the text by highlighting it, and choose “Quote” at bottom right of the post. Has something changed in the formatting process?

          I don’t think so.

I’ve tried to select a portion of text to quote and the entire post shows. Twice now. I’ve done this in the past without even giving it much thought and all went well. Read my original reply to PK. I had selected the text to quote and the whole post showed up. Never saw the quoted text while composing and when I hit “submit”, that’s when her full post came through. Maybe I’m missing a step. Dunno. Need sleep.

Click “Reply” button – it’s at the bottom now.
Be sure your cursor is in the location you want the quote to be placed.
Then scroll up and highlight the text (did you highlight it before you clicked Reply?).
              Then click “Quote” button.

Did everything you mentioned and this is the way I’ve been doing it with quotes for the past 4 years here at AW. Just now selected one step to your instructions above, making sure I tapped on Reply at bottom first (I do realize the Reply tab was relocated on AW awhile back). After selecting the text I wanted to quote, tapped on “quote” which took me to composing, I did not see the text at that point just reference to the post ID being quoted. In the past when I selected a part of the text for quote it showed up while composing my reply. I’ve done this blindfolded in the past in a hot second. About to hit “submit” we shall see but I’m thinking it will appear the same as what happened last night.

Ok. It worked on the PC as I suspected it might be something to do with the highlighting process via iPhone and iPad. It is just that, the latter. Strange, but after highlighting the text to quote with my iPad or iPhone, the selection doesn’t stick while hitting the Reply tab. I tried selecting text after going for Reply, that’s when the quote reference for the entire post shows in the composing area. Whatever, I now know to use the PC or Mac. That shouldn’t be though. I’m going to do some testing with highlighting independently at some point to get to the root of the issue. Thanks for your assistance. I’m just glad I found a solution.

Same occurs for me when on ipad. Is this going to be resolved? Time consuming to post without quotes using ipad (while actively working on a non-responsive PC issue), have to manually type out parts of the reply you are responding to:)

@Deo – When I use a mouse with my iPad or iPhone I can select the text to quote and it works fine. But I don’t carry the mouse around. It’s probably a formatting issue on these particular devices using tap/select, etc.

Works with keyboard. Thanks for mentioning mouse. Seems it’s a ‘touch  only’  issue.

I can do it on my iphone.

‘Touch’ for this site does not work on my iph either. Perhaps its a browser issue? Though I even tried Safari which I never use with all safeguards off to no avail.

Do you need to click the Reply button first? Does that indent the reply?

Yes, if you don’t start with Reply, the text you quote will end up in the field directly in line with the Topic.

It work correctly here, but when I tried it HERE  it ended up above the POST I was trying to quote. Must of did something wrong.

To have authors name included in your quoted reply you first select Reply, this will thread, or nest (indent) your reply to the post you replied to. After selecting reply, you then need to select Quote at the bottom of that post, this will include the complete text of the post and author replied to.

To reply to only part of a post, select Reply, highlight the text, then select quote . Authors name will be included in the quoted part of your reply.

If you just select Quote at the bottom of a post you want to reply to, it will open a new post at the bottom of the page.

Reply first to nest, then select quote to include author. Just selecting Quote will not nest reply.

When select Reply and then select Quote I get the below.

Yes, the quoted text or complete post will be truncated via [/pq] while you are composing your reply.

That’s if you want the authors name at top of quoted content, what you wanted – yes?

I want the reply to show: indent, authors name and the full text to appear in the compose field. So I can a multi-Quote the authors reply/post. If that makes sense?

      Hope this works.

You can use BLOCK QUOTE to do this. Assuming you are only quoting text from one author.  You click REPLY and then HIGHLIGHT starting text and QUOTE that.

Now, HIGHLIGHT the complete post and paste it in your reply. Using TEXT tab (easiest)

Separate portions of the text using blockquote to start and /blockquote to end that part.

the author’s name will only appear in the first highlighted portion.

I want the reply to show: indent, authors name and the full text to appear in the compose field

This has your name in it.

Using blockquote from toolbar in TEXT tab, you can quote the remaining portions as you go. Unless you continually highlight and select quote each time it will look like this.

      Hope this works.

If you reply to text within the quote it will appear as quoted also.

      Confusing 🙂

If you reply to text within the quote it will appear as quoted also. Confusing

        Multi quote # 1

Thats why they call them confusers rather than computers 🙂

        Multi quote # 2

After a little trial and error I’ll have it figured out.

        Thanks for the help,
