• Install some updates in queue but not all

This is the first month that I’ve received the monthly Quality Update and associated Servicing Stack Update after I switched to the Group Policy method for controlling downloading and installing updates to Win 10 Pro (1909). I saw them this AM in wushowhide and they have subsequently shown up in the Windows Update queue. I do not wish to install KB4535680 (which I assume is for Servicing Stack) or KB4598229 (2021-01 Cumulative Update) until Susan gives the OK.

The problem is that two other updates are included in the queue which I would like to install now. These are KB2267601 (Daily Defender SIU) and KB890830 (MSRT). Is it possible to install these two without the other two? If so, how? I checked 2000016 but couldn’t find any instructions on this.

    Thanks,

    Don E.

You might try WuMgr to hide some updates and install other updates. An explanation and download is here:

Use wushowhide to hide the ones you want to delay.
Clear the WU queue or wait till WU checks for updates on its own.
When there is nothing in the queue but the ones you want, install them.
Then use wushowhide to unhide the others. If you have the “2” (notify download/install) setting, they shouldn’t download until you click the “Download” button. They should just sit in the queue waiting on you.

      PK,

Went back to wushowhide and hid the two updates that I want to defer. I don’t know how to “clear the queue.” Can you advise me on that? I have the “2” setting in G.P.

Since I get a Defender update daily, and prefer to install it the same day, it might be appropriate to leave the two January updates hidden until Susan gives the OK to install. What’s your opinion?

The Defender update should go ahead an update anyway. On mine, if I leave it alone, the Defender update disappears/installs if I just leave it alone.
But it won’t hurt to leave the others hidden till you want to install them. Just remember they are there.
When you unhide them, they should sit in the queue instead of downloading on you immediately, so you will still have control.

        Don-

As PK said above, the daily Defender Security Intelligence Updates will download and install on their own, completely separate from Windows Update, so don’t worry about them if they’re listed in Windows Update.

You can have Windows Security manually update them if you wish, but there’s usually no need, as they’re automatically done in the background every 24 hours or so.

If you want to know how to “force” a Security Intelligence Update check, just drop a line in a new topic about Windows Security or about Windows Defender, and we can answer it there.

      PK,

How to “clear the queue?” All items are still there after hiding the two.
