With the upgrade to Defcon 4 does this now mean that it is reasonably safe to do all updates on Win 10 as well as the new 2004? Thanks

DEFCON-4 applies to the May Patch Tuesday updates, not to the upgrade to v2004 released late in May.
Read Woody’s ComputerWorld article for instructions,

NOT SAFE to install version 2004…yet

OP should take a look at this list of known issues/problems with Windows 10 version 2004

Thanks for the link EP, I have read those before and have not updated to 2004 yet and won’t for a while. I just wasn’t sure when we went to defcon 4 if that meant for everything or not. Thanks for the help.

For those of you who have an Intel Solid State Drive, the link below will lead you to the Intel toolbox. It’s a great tool and easy to use. It does take a bit of time to install but it’s well worth it.  This is the easy way to keep your drivers and software up to date. 🙂

Having installed it (clean install on a test PC), IMO it’s not worth bothering even if it runs OK. “Nothing  new to see folks, move along.” Really.

Plus, the ability to defer updates in Pro is GONE. [Pause] is your only option in the [Advanced] section, or [Group Policy Edit].
I think that alone is enough reason to ignore it.

V2004 is not recommended at this time. It is too soon after release.
Woody recommends v1909, which is more-or-less stable.
Updates are OK through May 2020.
Woody hasn’t approved June updates yet – we are still on DEFCON-2.
