I am using Windows Live Mail 2011 and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

If I want to send pictures in an email, I will add an attachment or just paste them in the message body. No problem. (In Options, I have unchecked Convert messages to photo emails…)

BUT, if I right-click a photo and use Send to Mail Recipient, it attempts to login to SkyDrive. I don’t want to. I click cancel and I end up with a useless email message. It has a thumbnail with links that go nowhere.

How can I unlink the Send to Mail from SkyDrive and have it just go to my email?

If I click Send to Mail Recipient, it should attach the photo to an email that I can send. It should NOT attempt to connect to SkyDrive.

    How can I do this?

    Thanks!

When I right click a photo and choose Send To, Mail Recipient, it opens WLM and attaches a the photo. It does ask me what size I wish to use first.

I would start by upgrading to WLM 2012. This updated mail client seems to have fixed some of the problems with WLM 2011. I would also uninstall WLM 2011 first.

      Hi StickBoy,

your method of sending photo/s is not the best method. If sending a singe or multiple photos, its best to put it / them in a folder then select ‘Compress and email’ as in my attachment. WLM must be set as ‘Default’ program. 32059-How-to-Zip

Medico: I run updates all the time and have never been offered WLM 2012. I just went to the Microsoft site and it is not there. The latest they have is WLM 2011, released 3/22/2012. Same version number I already have, 15.4….
How do I get the 2012 version? Maybe it’s only available for Win8?

Roderunner: I wasn’t asking for the best method to send pictures. I was asking how to disable the link to SkyDrive.

      Thanks!

I did try the method you described using WLM 2012, I only use it for Gmail and it still showed up in my Skydrive. I do know other methods of sending photos but have not used them lately, so I don’t know if its workable for what you want.

it’s part of the Windows Live Essentials suite. You choose which portions of the suite you wish to install, one part or all. I would uninstall WLM 2011, download the suite. You will be asked if you want custom install or express install (something like that) Choose the alternative that lets you choose which apps to install.

I am too chicken to install WLM 2012, lest I lose all my emails. Too much trouble to back it all up. And it’s just not that important. As Ken says, it didn’t work for him anyway, so I am thinking I would be further frustrated, having gone through the whole process to have it not work.
I am wondering if there is a workaround. I know there are ways to add things to the context menu. Is there a way to somehow add an entry that sends photos directly to WLM instead of SkyDrive?

The Send To folder is located in UsersusernameAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsSendTo.

Click on the “Mail recipient” shortcut and select properties, the Details tab. What is the File Name?

Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!

Under the Details tab it tells me the Name is
      Mail recipient.MAPIMail
Under General tab it says Type of file is
      Mail Service (.MAPIMail)
      And Opens with
      Unknown application.

Those are the correct values. Your issue is with Windows Live Essentials. I use Outlook for email, I don’t have Windows Live anything installed, and mine works as you want yours to work.

Perhaps there is some option or setting in Sky Drive, but I wouldn’t know.

My PC reports the same settings although I use Outlook as my email client as bbearen does. I also receive the resize window that Ted referred to earlier and have no problems.

This thread on SevenForums suggests a couple of workarounds although it also seems to imply that what is happening is by design :o:
