I guess the point is I update every month following the master patch guidence. I just have never seen the term out of band and its highlighted in red which seems to indicate some kind of warning. Plus I have no ideal what a DC machine is so I was looking for info on what all of this mean. I am 70 years old and having a heck of a time staying up with all of this. I use LTSC because I hate all of the crap that microsoft puts into window and wanted full contol over updated that LTSC provides.

I am using LTSC witch has an end date of Jan 9 2024. So my question stands. Does anyone know the anwser to my question?

Thanks now I have a backup. I was easier when Susan had it on the update page. I always use the catalog.

Yes I do and it has been a dream to use. I have been using it since 2016 and never had a glitch. There are no feature updates because it is a totally stripped down version. And my wifes laptop is running 1809 LTSC. When I saw Microsoft forcing bad updates down our throat I started using LTSB. I have full control of what and when I get updates. Its like living in the simpler Windows 7 time. Please keep listing 1607 on your updates untill fall. Then I will have a new maching running with 1809 LTSC. I really apprecate your work.

I do not understand this. It says clover trail are only used in laptops and LTSB 1607 is primarily use on servers. Plus LTSB never get feature updates. I installed the update (above) from the catalog and installed it with no problems.

I guess my feeling is I make backups before update but having Micosoft messing with my chip does not instill confidence. But I remember now long ago I used inspectre. I will check it on the wifes laptop. I know at least understand whats going on. Thanks all

    • in reply to: Cannot download Oct updates from MS catalog. #2400737

I have stopped all addons that have to do with blocking. no luck. I downloaded brave browser and when I tried to download an update it popped up a warning that downloading this file cannot be done securely. I said do it anyway and it worked fine. I guess I will just use brave when I need to update.

      Thanks all for the help

I cannot download any thing from the catalog. It must be a setting in firefox. I will install another browser and try that

I am using firefox. The file box pops up “save as” and the file shows up with 0 bytes. I just now discovered that as soon as the download now box pops up if I pause and do not click the download button the file start downloading but as soon as I click save it quits.

I am a confused senior citizen. I have LTSB 2016 and set it up long ago for no updates. I follow you advice each month and do manual updates. Should I use your 21H1 reg file for home” The windows update folder in group policy edit does not have a sub folder called windows update. Mine only had one sub folder called Defer windows update.  Is windows 11 going to be offered and an update that I can just ignore forever?

This is how I diabled updates (see below)

      2. In the Local Group Policy Editor dialog, select Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates →
      Windows Components → Windows Update.

      4. Configure the Allow Automatic Updates immediate installation setting:
      A. Double-click this setting.
      B. In the dialog that comes into view, select Disabled. Then click OK.
      5. Configure the Configure Automatic Updates setting:
      A. Double-click this setting.
      B. In the dialog that comes into view, do one of the options that follow:
l Recommended. If you want Windows to stop automatically downloading, installing, and telling you about
available updates, select Disabled. Then click OK
