By the way, I’m finding annoying problems with outlook on Ios for phone and iPad after upgrading to 16. 16.2 “may” fix it but haven’t used it enough yet to be sure. It is reproducesble on any given day.

Moving between to field and message body irratically works or not and only a reboot seems to fix it. However the problem does seem to return.

I can manage O365 from my phone and do most of the common things that are needed. Most of my issues are email sent, text or Teams. I can dictate answers (or in Teams even initiate a call using it), and so it works just fine. (dictation requires time spent on corrections). I have 1Password on it, One Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, my banking app etc. So combining it with the O365 admin app and OneNote, I can handle a lot on the phone. A Chromebook seems so limited.

But the use of the phone seems to be a difference in styles. My wife lives on her small iPhone. She also has an iPad but rarely uses it. The fact that you only send emails on your laptop means I can probably tell how old you are (or aren’t!).

I can’t understand for the life of me why one would chose a cell phone over an ipad to read stuff, but there you have it.

Ran into a lot of issues this week with my clients, all of whom rely heavily on OneDrive. This bug is really a problem. Glad to see that they supposedly fixed it. I had the ones that had troubles rollback the upgrade from October. Sheesh.

I’m a consultant and have at the moment both a MacBook Air and HP Elitebook laptop w/touchscreen running W11 Pro. I also have an iPad Pro. I’m going to put my Elitebook aside for testing for Intune and other business needs (I bought it on Ebay used for $600, it is a bit heavy compared to the Air). It’s been a workhorse and has a great keyboard.

Just ordered a Windows Surface Pro 9. I checked it out at Costco and was impressed by the weight they seemed to reduce it to. Felt very comfortable in my hands. I’m assuming it will become my main machine.

While I like the Mac, it’s keyboard is great, the upgrade options and lack of touch screen in this day and age are not working for me. I’ve been spoiled by both the iPad & HP for touch. Also, I use a pen to take notes on the iPad. I’m a long time user of OneNote. (since about 2009 at least). The iPad pen does not have a solid connection. It dangles on the side of the machine and often falls off. I usually just stash it in my bag, which is a hassle.

The Surface has the ability to replace it’s SSD with up to 2 TBs with no problems (other than transferring your OS & data). That’s a real plus in this age of non upgradeable machines. I wish it had a USB 3 port but I’ll get by with two TB ports, dongle or two & a charging port.

I plug all my machines into a TB hub which allows multiple monitors & hard drives to be connected. I run a radio show off these machines as well. I’ll let you know how the Surface works out after a month or so of use. I assume it is not an iPad replacement, but will allow a lot of the same surfing ability.

I don’t know, I don’t work with home users. Only work with businesses and Windows Pro. Maybe someone else on here has more knowledge of how to best do this so you can share OneDrive and not email.

I assume you are running Windows 11 Home? If so, set her up as “another user on this box”. The fastest way to get her stuff off is to copy to a SSD/Hard disk and log out as you and log in as her. Then copy her files into her account.

Given that you state that ‘the machine did not start” it’s good that Best Buy was able to save any of her files. You might not have been clear about where you wanted the files to go, or perhaps she was using the families login in the past. Since she is living away you weren’t clear as to whether you insist you have some control over her viewing behavior either, so I don’t what your requirements for this account really are.

I would not recommend her being on the “family” login unless you absolutely want her there. Better to make her login part of a “Family” account. Unless I’m misreading this.

I don’t understand how she has full access to your emails through Teams. The only way that could happen is if she is using your login. Give her her own account and that should fix your problems.  Teams, by the way, does not allow someone that is not the user to access the users email. Sorry. Please treat yourself to some of the great videos on YouTube about these products. I’m sure you’ll find a better understanding of how to set these up in the future.

this is just one guide I found online in a quick search.

    • in reply to: Eliminating (Or Hiding) An Account In OneDrive #2480106

You mentioned you  tried unlinking her personal account? See screenshot.  If she is logging into Office 365 as him and not as a delegate, I don’t understand why her “personal” Onedrive is showing up in that login. Even if she is logging in as her business account (and not personal account) and he has delegated his calendar etc to her, her personal OneDrive should not be showing up. The screenshot you show seems to be her using both her personal and his personal onedrive accounts. Not a business Office 365 account which allows for an admin to do delegation. What you show is more a ‘family’ account situation. Maybe he actually needs to buy a license to Office 365? Perhaps you can show some more screenshots of what you are trying to eliminate? Maybe I’m misunderstanding something.

    • While the program worked for me, a couple of things.

      • Note Settings: You show an ability to resize the note. I could not find that ability anywhere in the notes.
      • When my Outlook is full screen on a second screen, the note overlays against the upper right hand close minimize and maximize buttons. No way to reposition the note. It should float.

Those two things are show stoppers for me. Sorry. I’ll stick with OneNote or Sticky notes.

      Did I miss something?

    • in reply to: MS makes it even more difficult to use a Local Account #2475113

Sorry, I was commenting on the opinion “Microsoft has seemingly got it in for power users lately, what with the company now blocking the ability to bypass setting up Windows 11 without a Microsoft Account (MSA) entirely, even in the Pro Edition. ” The author (a reporter?) then goes on to say how it can be handled, both with a command line and a workaround not needing the command line. So it is not blocking anything.

As someone who routinely sets up machines for small business clients, I always setup an WSADMIN account and a user account. Yes, this  new Windows issue is a bit of a PIA, but nothing I can’t work around. As an admin level pro, I am familiar with command line issues, so I’m not daunted by this. Also, I can clearly setup an admin user of any variety and then go in as local admin and delete it. I would agree that I would prefer that Microsoft takes an easier way of simply choosing to be a MSFT account or local user. Apple currently has an easy way to bypass the setup of an Apple Account to the user. So does Linux. Virtually all my clients end up on Azure AD anyway, so they are registered MSFT business users. For those not, I try and explain the benefits of having the account, just like with Apple. Anyone with a cell phone should be able to understand that as they usually need to login to the Android or Apple store for their apps.

I hope you can take it to MSFT in your article that the vast army of supporters of small businesses out there are not happy with this change. We expect more of MSFT than this. Just make it easy for us to implement their product.

How about RAM. How much RAM do you have and what is your RAM profile when this is happening (how much actual RAM does your system have?) I have seen many computers lately with 8 GBs using a much more RAM intensive profile (i.e. Many open Browser windows, Teams, Outlook, Excel etc) run into odd problems when they max out their working RAM. I would see what task manager says about your RAM useage. If you only have 8 you may be ready for a RAM upgrade. Every one of my clients had to go to 16GBs because of this very issue. I say this because clearly the picture is downloading if you can copy it, but Outlook is having a hard time getting the image in place. Application issue.

    • in reply to: Images not fully displaying in messages #2448968

Maybe try playing around in this menu system. I don’t have this issue myself. What speed is your bandwidth? Also, are the files huge? Like over 1 GB?

    • in reply to: Images not fully displaying in messages #2448959

So to troubleshoot this properly, when you say you’re Using Outlook, do you mean the web version of Outlook for consumers, or the desktop program called Outlook? Also where is the email coming from in Microsoft account or something else like Gmail or other?

    • in reply to: Removing MFA #2442521

Something to ponder as you take the risk of not using MFA and getting your password hacked.  Clearly MSFT feels that using the email address is ok if you are using MFA. While not ideal it is used by Google as well. And as I mentioned on a thread above, all of my clients using passwords were hacked prior to my taking over their accounts as admin. None have been since implementing MFA over the last three years. I’m convinced and so are they that it works and works well.
