That girl deserves a award, fantastic, …. very talented for her age on a full blown drum kit and to LED ZEPPELIN,… no doubt to be seen on TV some time soon.

Absolutely amazing watching the foot and hand work considering she could barely reach the peddle.

So good to see she is absolutely enjoying herself as well.

(P.S ) Wonder if the drum kit was her X-Mass pressy.

Sure hope it was as there seems to be a new female drummer star about to be born for the music stage.

Thanks, And a Merry X-Mass 2 all and the best 4 the coming New Year 2019.

To everyone that had a look at my post on Google not working plus replying with certain ideas i pass on a big thank you.

A great site ( Thanks Woody ) when i comes to trying to solve problems across all bases.

As of this afternoon Google Chrome began to function normally.

To that degree it was a Google Chrome fault during their issuing of this latest version world wide and even though i had it installed at that point it did not function as it should have.

I dare say that they had discovered the problem and resolved it.

All functioning as per normal as i am using the latest Google Chrome to type this on the site.

      This issue is now resolved.

      Many thanks to all again.

      Hi Kirsty.
Have tried all these methods before even posting on Askwoody.
With Google Chrome 71 ***** installed all what shows is the header bar.
Opening settings does produce the drop down box but anything within it when opening them is un-responsive just hangs on a blank google page.
One can use the header bar to type in a address and it gives predictive but when trying to open a address that just gives the AW SNAP.
Only thing yet to try is to Un-install either the 2018-11 Nov KB4467107 Update and or he Net framework update.
Or install the previous Google Chrome stand alone and wait and see if this issue resolves itself as I believe 71 Chrome is still being rolled out so not all bugs are inherent as of yet.
( I don’t think it would have anything to do with NET framework 4.7.2 for Win7 KB4054530 which is sitting in my optional side of updates highlighted as recommended ), but then who knows.
      Many Thnx.

More about Google Chrome not working.
How can you check extensions / plugins / and any non standard configuration or customization when it wont even load properly nor can I access anything in the drop down settings menu.
Continual AW SNAP failed to load pages or a blank page with a blue bar.

Checked my mothers computer which has a much earlier version on it, and guess what ?

Same issue with it since a few days or a day ago.

This seems quite wide spread and is just beginning to rear its head.

Make me wonder if the MS Nov KV4467107 rollup update for Win 7ย has caused this issue ?

I myself don`t like the look of it stat wise or know what it does.

Some more of my thoughts, once again pls correct me if i am wrong.

Garbo has the right idea with a particular Svchost/s and the climbing Working Memory sets.

Finding the culprit ( Program ) and its relation and dependencies ( particular program/s and its associated Svchost/s and DNS ) can be a needle in the haystack scenario.

In regards to DNS ( Domain Name System ), ….. makes me wonder what programs you use that are continually talking to a IP Address ( back to base so to speak ) as many different AV and Malware Progs do as they continually monitor and run behind the scenes.

Many will also turn back on ( even though you manually disable them ) on the next boot.

Within Processes one can right click the process and select Go to Service to see its relation.

In services.msc one can right click the service and select properties to see what its description and dependencies are.

On a side note 200,000 Kb equals approx 200 Megabyte which is high but not overtly high considering Chrome can use well beyond this figure in working sets of up to 400 Megabyte dependant on whats running and how many pages are open.

Myself, i would be inclined to firstly un-install Heimdal PRO Xย  / Spybotย  as i myself have had many issues with this one and associated memory leaks / Foxit Phantom PDF which i have had issues with as well / Microsoft Silver light which i have had Memory Working Set run away`s and leaks with if you do not use them.

From there one by one of anything else i have installed but don`t use frequently. Admittedly this will leave many empty folders and links behind as many programs do not completely and cleanly un-install themselves but in any case they should not continue to run after being un-installed but remember to do a re-boot after un-installation as many require so.

Keep Malware bytes and one good AV for the time being.

      Then continue to test.

Last resort, ….. a complete fresh install which can solve soooooo many issues as it clears out everything then re-install the OS / the Drivers required / AV / Updates / Browser and test before adding any more.

From there add one prog at a time and test to see if it causes the Memory Working Set to continually climb which can help in pin pointing the troublesome item.

Also makes me wonder if one of the items has a substantial memory leak.

    • in reply to: Windows 7 PC gets very sluggish #236202

This may all be a bit late but here are a few of my thoughts which may have already been posted as to Win 7 sluggish behaviour on a SSD in relation to a faulty thermal sensor.

As i have not read all of the posts some of what i mention may already have been brought up.

In relation to a faulty thermal sensor on the SSD it could be possible that the SSD is causing the system to throttle due to the false reading.

The BIOS / UEFI on many motherboards have settings in relation to certain temperatures of components such as the CPU and i believe if the BIOS / UEFI is getting a false high reading this may cause throttling and slow downs / sluggish behaviour of the system.

      On other thoughts.

How full is your SSD in relation to its size ?. The old adage was to have at least 50% free, ( on the mechanical drives at least ). Not to sure on whats required with SSD`s.

You did mention you installed a 450G SSD so you should have plenty of free space.

Never defrag SSD<code>s as i have seen people that have tried which has then caused issues with SSD</code>s.

As for re-imaging the OS to a new hard drive i have never had to much success with this myself in relations to Drivers not being correct for the new hard ware that has been installed.

I have always found that re-installing the OS had been the better way even though time consuming. ( Jut make sure you have everything you need backed up ).

In relations to adding many other programs for testing sake may compound the problem even further as many do not un-install properly and leave many folders behind including trace remnants within the Registry. Too many will start to load up the system as many run automatically behind the scene.

Always remember which Processes / Services that you have disabled. ( jot them down for reference ).

In relations to programs that you have added and the Processes / Services that they invoke, even though you may have disabled them many do re-start on the next boot.

Also remember that to many different forms of security software don`t play well together.

These are a few of my thoughts, pls correct me if i am wrong on any as computers are a continual progression of learning through reading and trial and error testing.

    • in reply to: How to deal with Event Viewer Paranoia? #227894

      Event Viewer Paranoia.

      Totally agreed.

Look at it for to long and you will think your computer is kaput.

Critical ( Headache ), Error ( My Brain is malfunctioning ), Warning ( I`m overloading ), Too much Information, Audit Success ( when i turn it off and walkaway ).

Paul T and The Surfing Pensioner has got it right.

If your computer chucks some wobbly`s and turns a bit pear shaped it could give you some insight as to where the problem may lay.

In Windows 7 I clear mine in one foul swoop every now and then after i`ve sorted out some of the hiccups by using the Elevated Windows Power Shell Command off :

      wevtutil el | Foreach-Object {wevtutil cl “$_”}

On the next boot it starts to regenerate.

    • in reply to: Patch Lady – October’s updates are installed #227297

I have just gone through Susan`s Master Patch List.

I am wondering whats happened with the 2018-10ย  Windows 7 monthly quality roll-up beingย  ( KB4462927 ) as on my computer it is still listed as Preview in Optional in AU.

I did install KB3177467 V2 Service Stack which was the only one i had listed as Important.

Possible has not been pushed through in AU as Important due to Date differences between AU and USA ???

    • Oh Brother where are we bound with MS ?

Patches, what patches, i think i will have to pull the band aids out.

There seems to be no transparency with MS which leads to all sort of confusion amongst the many flavours of Windows and patching.

Patches for Win 10 plus the previews, …. yes for those who use Win 10.

As for Win 7 some say they have been yanked and some say they have not.

Could not see any related to the Oct 2018 Security Monthly Quality Roll-up related to Win 7 being listed anywhere.

( I have even looked in the MS Update Catalog with only the preview of the Oct 2018 Monthly Quality being listed ).

Well, i saw and watched my Oct 2018 Security Monthly Quality or was it just the Quality Roll-ups for Win 7 disappear from my important listing.

All i was left with in the important listing were the Malicious Software removal tool and the latest Service Stack ( KB 3177467ย  Ver 2 ) which i have now installed.

As it stood without the latest Service Stack Update ( KB3177467 Ver2 ) installed all my recommended updates NO longer showed but now i have them back after installation of the latest Service Stack Ver 2.

The only one i see is related to the Preview of the Win 7 Oct 2018 Monthly Quality Roll-up is listed in my recommended and of course the NET Framework and many others that i did not need.

This is getting more maddening and crazier by the day on this side of the hemisphere ( AU ).

Thoroughly confused and probably confuse those who read this.

      Signed, Confused.

Question on : Things i have learned last night.
At one point i had selected the check box that states :
Notify me of follow up replies via email so to follow this thread.

As i am getting too many i have De-Selected this setting it but it seems that every time that i log back in or shut down and re-boot the computer the Check Box once again is selected automatically.

How do i prevent this from happening ???

I do not wish anymore emails on this subject / thread as there are way to many.

    • in reply to: Things I learned last night… #204149

In regards to the expired certificate showing up when logging in and or browsing your site on Chrome.

I have read the posts not to keep posting about this issue or it may get bumped off.

The reason i have posted about it is that i know little about this side of things. apart from Httpsย  is a extension of the Hypertext transfer protocol for secure communication over a computer network and is encrypted using TLS ( Transport Layer Security ).

I gather that you would have to renew it from your end so that it shows Secure/Https ??? and that we will have to wait until this is propagated and or reset.

I gather this will all be automatic on our end when re-done and will once again show Secure ???

As i am in Australia and today’s date being 18/07/18 it is still showing Not Secure.

I have managed to get to the site and disabled the security warning and blocked the notification from appearing every time so to access the Ask Woody Site so not to have to jump hurdles to get there.

What i get in my address bar is a Red Triangle with a asterix in it followed by in red Not Secure with the Https lined out in red and then the rest of the address being in black ://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/things-i-learned-last-night/

I sometimes find it hard to explain issues after suffering a couple strokes in the past so a little help and clarification is highly appreciated.

On another note i am not sure whether to use the Visual or Text format when posting on your site as on a previous post of mine in regards to favourite tools ( CCleaner ) there was a tag added to the bottom stating something about editing and formatting when one adds a link source or capture.

I have posted this using the Text Tab.

Congrats on 14 years of operation of this site.

A great source for information and help for everyone from so many so thanks to all who take the time out doing this.

    • in reply to: Piriform CCleaner & Speccy #201973

My thoughts on CCleaner / Installation and its Functions.

Always make sure it comes from a legitimate and reputable resource and preferably from a HTTPS secure page such as …..

      https://www.ccleaner.com/

On installing the setup box will display 6 install options which are your choice. I find the Enable Intelligent Cookie scan the more important.

The next dialog box will prompt you to install the Google Toolbar along with CCleaner, and possibly Google Chrome as well. (ย Un-check both if you do not want these and then click the install button ).

Wait for the installation to finish.

Click Finish when you see the Completing the CCleaner Setup dialog box. A browser window will open asking you to buy CCleaner Professional edition. You can safely ignore this.

CCleaner main console window is divided into Windows and Application tabs. On the right is where information or results from operations are displayed. Beneath that are the Analyze and Run Cleaner buttons. (ย I would suggest to leave these at their Defaultย Settings ).

Most free progs have adds and add ons to keep them financially viable through advertising and other.

My personal thoughts on CCleaner :

      THE GOOD :

Small footprint / low on resource use / easy to run / versatile /ย  ease of access to Windows and Application Tabs for cleaning and checking of files that it finds all within one console without having to go to : Start – All Programs – Accessories – Systems Tools in Win 7.

The CLEANER TAB : gives you option for checking or un-checking check-boxes for cleaning within Windows and or Applications. ( I would suggest to leave these at their default settings ).ย

The REGISTRY TAB : for scanning for registry issues. Once scanned you can Right Click on the problem and select Open In Reg-edit to see its location. Useful for finding those remnants left behind from bad uninstalls. <b>( Use with caution as one wrong removal of a wrong entry in this field can render the computer unstable or un-bootable requiring a completeย re-install of the Operating System or render certain installed programs unstable or unusable )</b>.

The TOOL TAB : has many useful functions such as for uninstalling programs / Startups to see what loads on computer startup and options to stop these from loading up on startup / Browser Plugins to see what plugins are being loaded / Disk Analyser to see which type of files are using disk space / Duplicate Finder to search for duplicate files / Systems Restore to make restore points or remove them / Drive Wiper ( Read and use with caution ).

The OPTIONS TAB : for for selecting or de-selecting options ofย  these tabs : Settings / Cookies / Include / Exclude / Scheduling / Monitoring which monitors your applications to perform automatic cleaning which is checked by default, ( i would suggest un-check these if you have a slow computer or prefer to clean manually or dont wish to have a CCleanerย Icon appearing on your task bar ) / Users / Advancedย  / Privacy.

      THE BAD :ย

The REGISTRY TAB : There is no harm in scanning the registry to see what errors are foundย  but remember the removal of the wrong entry by using the fix button can render the computer unstable or un-bootable as i have mentioned before.

( If using this tab i would suggest one should have a firm grasp of the registry and its function firstly ).

ADD ONS when starting installation of CCleaner. Read and look carefully and un-check anything that you dont want installed automatically as i have mentioned at the beginning.

Overall as with any cleaner for systems files and registry’s err on the side of CAUTION.

Edit to remove HTML. Please use the “Text” tab in the entry box when you copy/paste.

    • So far so good with June`s KB4284826 Roll-up on my ole aging trusty Core 2 Duo E8400 on a Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L / 4 GB DDR2 800MHz / Gigabyte Nvidia GTX650 PCI-E / 1 TB Seagate HD running Win 7 Pro SP1 Build 7601 32 bit.

      No problem with installed NIC.

Ran CMD as Administrator with the “sfc /verifyonly” command just to make sure no other errors have crept in with the update process and no discrepancies or error were found.

As for Win Defender i have it disabled as i do not use it and run AVG and Malwarebytes instead plus some other stand alone progs such as Adwcleaner and Rkill for scanning for other unwanted s which could creep in whilst browsing.

Another use full one is the Windows Update Cleanup Tool which i use to clear older Update Entries that have been superseded plus C-Cleaner which i find use full for back tracking certain registry entries it finds by right clicking on the entry and selecting open in regedit.

I use this to find redundant entries of programs that have not un-installed in the correct manner.

NOTE : ( Registry entries not to be taken lightly as one little mistake such as deleting a entry / modifyingย a binary code can render your Operating System as useless requiring a complete re-install )

I also have the MS Customer Experience Program turned off as there is enough other telemetry that sends data back.

( Makes me wonder how good the Microsoft Security Essentials are and what sort of slow down they may create if it is continually running in the background if used and what telemetry it sends back??? )

No noticeable slow down on this ole trusty unit for the moment which i have not refreshed for the last past 6 years.

Lets see what the next rollup will bring.
