I have 3 different web browsers on this computer. All are up to date with the latest versions. They all exhibit the same problem.

I get a System Configuration screen. It has 5 tabs: General (Normal startup is selected), Boot, Services, Startup & Tools. What am I looking for?

“That sounds like an ISP cache somewhere.”

I guess that is possible, but I have never had the problem with any other website when I changed the password. But whatever the issue, I can access AskWoody just fine now from any of my three computers.

      Paul:

That was not the problem. It seems that I have to wait about 15-20 minutes between the time I create a new password until I try to use it.

After that time period, either entering the password manually or via KeePass works fine.

Are the passwords saved in the browser?

No. They are normally saved in a utility named KeePass. But because I was having problems, I reverted to entering them manually at https://www.askwoody.com/login/.

      That didn’t work either.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I don’t have a Microsoft account, and don’t want one.

I followed the suggestion by ‘b’, and unchecked the setting. I’ll know tomorrow if that does the trick.

Thanks for the rapid reply. I unchecked the setting (didn’t even realize it was checked). I’ll know tomorrow if that solved the problem.

      Ron M:

I updated both of my Win 10 laptops to 21H2 and did not have that problem. I learned two things many years ago. First any time I add any shortcuts to my screen, I take a screen shot of them, and then print a hard copy. Then I know what I had, and where. Second, I always do a backup before I install any new version of Windows.

      Phil:

Like you, I cleared the Target Version field by backspacing out 21H1, but I then typed in 21H2. I have two Windows 10 laptops, so I did this on both. It all worked fine.

Unlike you,  the action appears in my Update History on both computers. Also like you, both my  systems are  now at Version 21H2 (OS build 19044.1415).

      Thanks for your help.

      Phil:

Let me know if the 21H2 download works as it should. If so, then I will backspace out 21H1, and assume that by M’soft magic 21H2 will appear in my Windows Update.

Not that I know of. Where exactly do I look to see if I have or not?

UPDATE: I just went to this article on AskWoody:

      https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/6000003-registry-keys-and-group-policy-settings-to-select-specific-feature-rele/

I then went down near the bottom to the section headed: “To use group policy to do the same change (assuming you have Windows 10 professional):” See attachment.

At the top of the page, Enabled is checked.I went there on my older Win10 laptop, and under target version, it says 21H1, which is what I have installed.

If I want to continue to update Windows 10, but NOT go to Windows 11, can I leave Windows 1o listed in the first space, and  just leave blank the space under ‘Target Version for Feature Updates’? Or do I need to do something else?

I have Windows 10 Pro on two computers. Both have versions 21H1. Last update was today (KB5008212).

Why am I not offered 21H2?

Thanks for the clarification and the info that I will be able to lock on Windows 10 until I find it fit for Windows 11. The real question will be if I am fit for Windows 11!

      PKCano:

Thanks for the more detailed information, and the link. Because I was not 100% clear how to proceed with post #2400182 , I had not yet followed those instructions. So I was able to change the date I had selected under “Pause Updates’ to today. Then Windows proceeded to download and install the update. I did that on both my Win 10 computers.

I checked winver, and they are both now Version 21H1, Build 19043.1288.

I wasn’t sure it was going to work, because it seemed like it took forever to install, and since the process took essentially 100% of my memory, I was not able to see if there were any error messages on another screen. I used my 35mm camera to take some screen shot during the process.

One of the things I learned from this was that I should set the date of Pause update to the Saturday or Sunday before Patch Tuesday. By then Susan Bradley should have posted her recommendations.

Thanks as always for your help and insight.

      PKCano:

As always, thanks for your very prompt reply.

Windows Insider Program. Both computers ask if I want to join, so I assume that I am not on Insider Build. But on the Windows Update screen, at the top, both show in red this text: “Some settings are managed by your organization.”

      Version and Number:
E430 (updated from Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro). Version 21H1. Build 19043.1237
T14 (came with Win 10 Pro) The same. Version 21H1. Build 19043.1237

Before I go any farther with your suggestion to avoid updating, there are two things I don’t understand.

First, I thought I updated to 21H1 when Susan Bradley said to, and after that I set the 35 day window. So IF that is true, then I don’t understand why everyone who followed her suggestions are not having the same problem that I do.

Second, assuming I follow the steps you proposed, and can delay for another few weeks. Somehow I got the impression that updating put me on a quick path to Windows 11. Did I misunderstand? I am just now beginning to understand Windows 10!
