AskWoody PlusWow. A lively conversation. As with all of the software on OlderGeeks.com, we always try to go as far as we can with vetting it. As with Distant Desktop, I had several email exchanges with Alex Heikkinen of Distant Software (Helsinki, Finland). They are a small company of about 10 employees. Their future plans with Distant Desktop is to keep it free for 2 years and then start charging for pro features later on. The freebie is just a way for them to gain a customer base not to achieve world domination through evil spying. Sophos, like any other AV company, gets it wrong sometimes. I don’t believe it is intentional, it’s just a complicated game of cat and mouse they have to play.
If you have questions, contact Alex. His English is a bit broken because, Finland.

AskWoody PlusMicrofix is correct. This is just a way to use the Microsoft’s DISM commands without typing them. It’s doesn’t stray from those basic commands like DISM++ does.
Alex5723, you really had me excited about Nit. I hope they move forward with it.

AskWoody PlusThe most recent version of ControlUWP was just released and the author changed the program to be based on .Net Core instead of previously based on .Net at the time the article was written. The additional install prompt is Microsoft’s .Net Core which is completely safe.

AskWoody PlusMalbec,
Transwiz is for transferring your user profile from one computer to another. Prowiz is for transferring a user profile from one domain to another or from a regular user profile to a domain or vice-versa.

AskWoody PlusWe would love to add this to the OlderGeeks.com download database but the license file says no file distribution “at this time”. Can you get us an answer on adding it?

AskWoody PlusJanuary 29, 2020 at 2:44 pm in reply to: Server 2008 ESU: questions, glitches, experience so far #2111695Would you happen to have a Server Essentials or Small Business Server on the same domain? If so, you are violating the license and this can cause this.

AskWoody PlusProfiles in 7 and 10 are exactly the same. Win 8 too. The program just does what all of us techs have been doing manually. Moving the profile folders under the username like Documents and Pictures and then moving AppData folders, creating user and stuff. This just does it for you. No extra instructions needed.

AskWoody PlusDave,
I believe it is only one at a time in the free version. I could be wrong. Give it a try and let us know.
