When I started this thread I made it a point to make sure I checked the box. Then after clicking submit I checked the link at the top right of the topic in the gray bar and it said “Unsubscribe.” It also says I’m subscribed in my profile under my Subscriptions. It has been over six hours since your reply. I still have not been notified via email of your reply. I checked to see if my email was in my profile on the edit page and it is there and correct. Just for the heck of it I clicked on the “Update Profile” button on the edit profile page to maybe straighten out the cobwebs,  i.e. cyber gremlins.

    • I only have one laptop computer with Win7 Home premium and it always belonged to a homegroup. I think it was changed to homegroup somehow.
None of the boxes under “share libraries and printers” were ever checked.
What is the default setting suppose to be on a brand new Win7 Home premium OS ?

Is a homegroup defined by multiple computers connect via copper wires i.e. cat5 ?
Can the computers that belong to a homegroup be connected wirelessly ?
If you leave the homegroup does this effect the wireless connection to your printer ?
I currently don’t have a functioning printer at the moment. When I did, it was connect wirelessly through the router as is the laptop.

That bring me to anther question, if you have two identical computers, is there away to use one as a master and use the other as a slave or a back-up ?
Where as, the master computer uploads it’s changes to the slave computer so that the data on both hard drives are always identical?
      Example:
Both computers are connected wirelessly and the master computer is continuously uploading it’s changes to the slave computer.
      The reason:
If one of the two computers fails, I will always have one to fallback on, that is identical.

    • Here are the results from the
      Raymondcc .NET Detector
      Installed .NET Framework packages:
.NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2   ver: 2.0.50727.5420
.NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 2   ver: 3.0.30729.5420
.NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1   ver: 3.5.30729.5420
      .NET Framework 4.6.1   ver: 4.6.01055
Note: The detector results are after KB4040957 & KB4040966 .NET Framework security only updates were installed.
      KB4040960 did not install.

KB4040960 is the Security Only update for the .NET Framework 4.5.2 for Windows 7 SP1, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 SP2: September 12, 2017
      Source for the above info.

According to the Raymondcc .NET Detector, I do not have .NET Framework 4.5.2 installed. So you are correct, KB4040960 was not needed on my machine.

Also both updates show in installed updates.
KB4040957 is under “.NET Framework 4.6.1” and it shows as:
“Security update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.1 (KB4040957)”
KB4040966 (.NET Framework 3.5.1) is under “Microsoft Windows” and it shows as:
“Security update for Microsoft Windows (KB4040966)”
Out of the two KB4040966 is the only one that shows in update history.

I think I have what was required, do you concur?
If this is the case all I need to do is install KB4038777, 2017-09 Security Monthly Quality Rollup and I’m good to go. Until next months whirlwind.
Hopefully By then, Woody can get these attacks to this site under control.

    • “Do I download the second patch on this MS catalog list ?” Yes. And then in your case its 1st, 3rd, and 4th files. Reference: https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/dotnet/2017/09/12/net-framework-september-2017-security-and-quality-rollup/.

      I downloaded the following:
      windows6.1-kb4040966-x64_e7962089ce768c11b0aafc644abb7df0e985bdea.ms
It shows in installed updates & that it installed successfully.

      ndp46-kb4040957-x64_25f36953431af3abd007e23f44950bc9b46134d7.exe
The wizard said it installed but does not show up in installed updates.
Why doesn’t kb4040957 show in installed updates or is it not suppose to ?

      ndp45-kb4040960-x64_49acc241ffd0fe529497060f2da2e1aa81d7f405.exe
Wizard says: Software Update kb4040960 Installation Wizard does not apply, or is blocked by another condition on your computer. Does this mean kb4040960 is not needed or is there another reason why its being blocked?

I saved all three onto the desktop and ran them from there.

    • How to find the .NET security-only patch you need: First, find out what version(s) of .NET are installed on your computer. When you go to the catalog, enter the KB number in the search (example: 4041090 for Win7, 4041092 for Win8.1) Find your version (32-bit or 64-bit) Instead of clicking on “download,” click on the title of the patch In the popup box, click on “More information” That will take you to a page that tells you which of the several patches offered is for your version of .NET – make a note of the one(s) you need. Return to the download page, and download only the ones you need.

I haven’t pulled the trigger yet on the .NET security-only patch yet.
Before I do, I need a little more clarification on the correct patch for my machine.

    • PKCano,

I posted an update right before you posted a reply. (not sure if you read it)
Anyways 1.249.211.0 showed and I hid it, I will see what happens.
I will install current August patches as you suggested in your previous post.

      Thanks for the info,

    • Update on the above Post.
I checked off all the MSE definitions and ran WU, WU returned with one MSE Definition KB2310138,  1.251.513.0.
It installed successfully, ran WU again, WU came back with MSE KB2310138 1.249.211.0
I hid it, I will see what happens.

Ran WU again, WU shows “There are no updates available for your computer”.

    • Noticed MS Defcon 2 was changed to 3 and to get the August patches installed.
I ran WU and WU showed:
2017-08 Preview of Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4034670)
2017-08 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4034664)
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 – August 2017 (KB890830)
Definition Update for Microsoft Security Essentials – KB2310138 (Definition 1.251.513.0)

I hid all of the above, then I ran WU five more times and each time WU came back with another MSE Definition ending with Definition 1.251.491.0.
I also hid all the MSE Definitions.
1.249.211.0 did not ever showed up.
I have WU set to never check for updates.

    • I seem to have the 1.249.211.0 recurrence problem.
But it looks like there are quite a few definition failures.
The top 1.251.379.0 definition was manually installed.
When does MSE auto install definitions? I don’t see a settings option to control that.

    • To add to my above post after installing KB4025341
The hp support solutions framework service is showing high cpu use.
      Should I uninstall KB4025341?

I hid KB3186497  .NET Framework 4.7 for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64.Would installing KB3186497 fix the high cpu use?

    • I installed KB4025341 & KB890830 on 8-1-17 and upon restart I got BSOD.

I’m not sure if it was the update or if it is this problem I’ve been chasing.
Boot up shows black screen, After reboot boots normally.  More at link below.
      https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/boot-up-shows-black-screen-after-reboot-boots-normally/

The thing is for about a month and a half I’ve had no black screen on boot-up.
Today after installing KB4025341 & KB890830 and restarting, BSOD came back.
The fix is to hit Alt+F4 after hearing W7 boot up sound.
The computer shuts down, I then push the power button and it boots up normally.

Any Ideas what is causing this ?
      Did KB4025341 trigger something?

      Thanks,

      Thanks for the input.

Does anyone know how long https://photos.google.com/ plan on sticking around.
It seem like these photo sharing sites eventually drop out.

I’m looking for a long term solution.
Isn’t there a free personal website option where you could store your photos.

Sorry for the late response I must of not checked the “Notify me via email” box.

To get 50 Mbps down and 35 up in a rural area in Thailand.
I would say that is pretty astounding.
That beats the hack out of a lot of the rural telcos in the U.S.
Most of the U.S. rural telcos are still using multiple copper twisted pairs
to feed mini switches out in the field, in the rural areas. And the copper twisted pairs
were buried in the 1960’s, some old wires.
Once you move a couple miles out from the main central office switch internet speed declines.
Telcos in the U.S. only spend money where there is a concentration of people or homes.
Thailand must have a better technology priority system, whether if it makes financial sense or not.
