    • Thanks for the possible solutions.
A little more info on computer.
Bought the HP laptop January 2011.
GPU DE-solder itself from motherboard Feb 2013.
      Bought a refurbished motherboard.
It now boots up with a Compaq (Q) splash screen rather than a HP.
I didn’t want to send it back to have the BIOS re-flashed so I just lived with it.
I don’t think the above caused the the black screen issue.
I’m still using the original hard-disc, testing says its OK
I’m thinking I should replace the hard-disc before it fails.
Event viewer showed no problems during the boot up time period.

      Thanks Again,
      Sparky

      OK,

Is there any plans in the works that will send auto email notifications to registered users when the MS-Defcon rating changes ?

      Thanks,

MS Office Word starter 2010 is set to automatically update.
      I have WU set on:
“check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them”
Will MS Office Word starter 2010 still automatically update, by passing the WU setting  ?
Or do I have to update MS Office Word starter 2010 through WU ?

      Thanks,

I no not to install the April 2017 updates.
What I was really wondering about is:
      #11, March 2017 preview monthly rollup kb4012218
#13, Windows malicious software removal tool April 2017 kb890830.
Would it be OK to install those?

“People are saying that Microsoft Word should be updated now, rather than later, because of exploits, but none of those are showing on your list, so maybe you aren’t running Office?
I have MS Office starter 2010 click to run, v. 14.0.7157.5000,
MS Office Word starter 2010 is set to auto update.
I don’t know if this applies to WU and or the non click to run Office.

      Thanks for the reply,

    • I also cannot get AMD driver selector to work

What do mean by “AMD driver selector”, The driver selector on their website ?

I’ve learned the hard way, sometimes if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
I agree,  It is nearing that stage.

I guess it is going to take me a bit to learn how this forum software works.
Is the wp-admin page the only page where you can add a Profile Picture?

Wow, I edited the 1st “reply with quote” and removed the smiley face it was huge.

    • It is generally better to download the drivers from the OEM or device manufacturer than from Windows Update. Since you did not fine them on the HP site, I would check AMD. If you need more information about your hardware, check the Device Manager in the Control Panel, or run “msinfo32” (without quotes).

Would the SMBus drivers be in the Graphics Drivers package or are they in the Chipset Divers package?
