AskWoody PlusI would not worry about wi-fi 7 right now. It is still new and you probably don’t need all thit it may offer.
I agree
And I will look at the TP-Link you recommended
THANKS

AskWoody PlusYou should look for wi-fi 7 routers now.
I did – but they all are very very expensive

AskWoody PlusFebruary 23, 2024 at 3:50 pm in reply to: Can you use a free password manager, or must you pay? #2641516I am aware of that breach and their slowness to communicate a response to its users.
I am sure that affected its ranking. I guess more than I would have thought!

AskWoody PlusFebruary 23, 2024 at 3:27 pm in reply to: Can you use a free password manager, or must you pay? #2641510I have used the paid version of Last Pass Premium for approximately 15 years – because it synchs to all of the devices of both my wife & I.
Was shocked that it was not in the list of the best password managers.

AskWoody PlusJanuary 8, 2024 at 12:27 pm in reply to: What is the problem at the Social Security website? #2619398I see this topic has been around for a little while, but I will add my 2 cents anyway.
But, don’t fix what ain’t broken.
If Retired Geek’s link works for you, use that.
For a very long time, I have successfully used this link
https://secure.ssa.gov/RIL/SiView.doBut, it takes me to the exact link that Retired Geek posted.

Then, I just click on:

AskWoody PlusMarch 5, 2023 at 4:00 pm in reply to: No sound through speakers after upgrading from Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10 Pro #2541290My integrated Realtek Sound was no longer even shown in Device Manager nor in Settings/System/Sound.
Upgrading to Windows 10 Pro 22H2 really did a number on the Realtek Sound.
Installed (from Dell) the Speakers / Headphones (Realtek Audio) Driver 6.0.1.6111 dated 08/12/2016.
External speakers now working.
Will wait a few days to make sure speakers continue working & no other surprises pop up.
Then, I will probably use Group Policy to lock in that driver.
THANKS to all 3 of you who provided guidance.

AskWoody PlusMarch 5, 2023 at 12:43 am in reply to: No sound through speakers after upgrading from Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10 Pro #2541170A driver update occurred to me after I posted the above, but I was going to try to find the driver from Realtek (sound is from an integrated Realtek).
Your suggestion to try to find that driver on Dell instead may be the best way.
Workstation is in a separate location, so I will try it tomorrow.

AskWoody PlusMay 20, 2021 at 10:00 pm in reply to: Your device is missing important security and quality fixes. #2366040Is there a separate “compatibility” test to determine whether my laptop is capable of handling the 20H2 update?
Would it make any sense to use the Download Assistant @ Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com) which I believe does a compatibility test before installing the 20H2 update?

AskWoody PlusMay 19, 2021 at 10:29 pm in reply to: Your device is missing important security and quality fixes. #2365857Why not 21H1?
How do I force it to update to 20H2 or 21H1?
When I check for updates, it never offers me anything above 1909

But now I feel I need to resolve this problem before ever attempting an upgrade

AskWoody PlusMay 18, 2021 at 10:57 pm in reply to: Your device is missing important security and quality fixes. #2365671No, they both appear only in the History
But, when I check for updates, they both very briefly show up & try to install but never do install.

AskWoody PlusMay 17, 2021 at 11:07 am in reply to: Your device is missing important security and quality fixes. #2365374I am only using Defender & no other AV program.
Latest Definition update today was 1.339.901.0 & was successfully installed. I rechecked for updates & that is still the most current definition.
So, I guess I do not need that old Definition Update 1.339.73.0 (2) ? What is the (2)?
All printers operating correctly – so I also do not need that old generic driver.
Update keeps trying to update those 2 previously failed updates. How do I stop it from trying to update those?

I did finally restore a backup – & everything is working again.
Am out of town now – but will explain why I did not do that earlier when I return.

AskWoody PlusMay 30, 2019 at 10:23 am in reply to: How long should it take to "reset" Windows 10 Pro on a Dell Laptop? #1759103After running for 10 hours +/-, I manually shut it down using the Power Button before going to bed last night.
After restarting it a few times, I finally got back to the choice to restore it to a previous restore point.
In the past, that would also never complete, but this time it did complete. However, it would still not restart. So, I am back to square 1
